Mount Rainier Fly-By
Yesterday on a flight from PAE to PSP the pilot announced a special treat - ATC approved a tour of Mount Rainier. We came very close to the mountain and it was spectacular! Is this a regular thing? The FA said she had never been that close.

Always a humbling experience when you are looking down at this majestic mount above the clouds.

90% of my flights are west coast to Hawaii which gets pretty boring from a scenery standpoint. I recently flew PDX>DEN and was blown away at how beautiful all the snow covered mountains are. Taking off from PDX or SEA makes for some pretty nice views when it's clear.

We always choose the port side of plane for views from SEA/ LAX.
|
My horizon flights down to California always have great views of rainier, 3 sisters, Shasta, etc. FAs have no idea how “close” they are
|
Pilot was announcing the sites and different peaks which I really enjoy.

My first trip to SEA when I had just started dating my Seattle-native now-spouse, we were put in a holding pattern doing I think two full left turns around Rainier at probably 10,000 feet (and I had a port-side window seat). Pretty good sales pitch for the area! Don't have photos. :(
