It's for your safety. Just like the hotel refusing to provide breakfast or housekeeping.

I flew out of Portland the other day and was happy to see the increasing amount of self serve items; soda, coffee and of course food that was spread across the lounge still trying to encourage social distancing. I know it has been discussed before but I certainly hope that AS has an expansion of that lounge (or a new one) in the back of their mind. What I have noticed in the PDX lounge is that you are constantly dancing around people should you go to get something to drink or go to the bathroom; it is a very choreographic dance but you seem to be saying "sorry" or "excuse me" several times as you move around the lounge. The staff though remains great, cheerful and always ready to help.

LAX is still [gladly] self-service, even with the new "mask-mandate", hopefully it doesn't deteriorate back to a service member serving you, they already seem understaffed. Clam chowder on tap tonight, which seems a weird pick for a freebie lounge offering.

FYI, Lounge closes at 9pm, not 8:30pm as directed on the website.

I was at PDX lounge today. Your observations are valid. Then I flew to SEA and went to the N lounge; what a world of difference!
AS spent $1 million to upgrade the PDX lounge a couple years ago, so I doubt they'll do more improvements unless AA or another OW partner coughs up money.

Clam chowder is a regular Alaska Lounge soup--actually my personal favorite soup that they serve.

Fortunately, this isnít the case. There are plans already in place for a new, much larger lounge, as part of the PDX renovation plan.

What is your source? Please share the web link.

AL PDX was just renovated in 2019 for $1 million dollars.

I haven't seen what you are talking about in https://blog.alaskaair.com/ or on https://www.pdxnext.com/

PDX seems to be attempting something similar to SIN, Singapore's Changi airport's Jewel terminal. Pre-Covid, I was in SIN every two months.

If a 9,000 sf upgraded lounge happens, great. I hope to live that long.

In the meantime, whoever planned AL PDX's 2019 upgrade should not be allowed to be involved in the future.

It reminds me of a cramped, poorly designed IKEA cafeteria, all for only $1 million dollars. I took that comment from a PDX-home flyer who sat beside me yesterday PDX-SEA on AS.

Does anyone have a definitive date for the opening of the AL SFO? I like to attend lounge openings. The last one was the CL DEN on February 1, 2021. It is now my favorite CL. I have similar high hopes for AL SFO but AL SEA N Terminal will be tough to beat.

AS has not publicly announced a date.

FYI, the original plans for the SFO AL were scrapped due to the pandemic so the new AL will be where the old AC was located so it will be nice, but not the new construction that was previously announced....highly doubt it will be at the level of the N lounge in SEA. Another FTer recently reported no evidence of work being done on the SFO lounge which doesn't bode well for an opening anytime soon. My guess is that it will open in time for the holiday travel season in November/December.
