The chicken breast was dry, as expected, but still tasty. The saffron rice and lemon meringue were very good. Still better than what most other airlines are serving these days. No cookies were offered on the flight.

I thought the cod was...fine? To me it seemed mildly flavored and the cod was cooked well and not dry. Overall, it tasted like a lighter/healthier meal. Also, mine definitely looked less black than the one in gold10829's post. Our F/A also wrote different quotes for each of our meals which I thought was interesting.

No plated dessert meant the cookies came out, which ended up being southern toffee with nuts (maybe pecans?), and as expected, delicious.

It was pretty decent tho unremarkable and came with a lemon meringue tart. Service was very good and professional with a pass of the snack basket around an hour out of DCA.

This was my first transcon since COVID, but things mostly seemed normal except the coffee was in paper cups. My wife and I pre-ordered the kale bowl, which we both thought was pretty tasty. My neighbor had the onion frittata, I passed on that as I hate onions but it also looked pretty good. My son pre-ordered the fruit and cheese plate, which came with yogurt. There was one pass of the snack basket about an hour before landing; I selected the pea-toes based on reviews here and was not let down. We landed around an hour early due to favorable winds, all in all a very smooth flight although JFK Terminal 1 is pretty sad these days.

I was hesitant but tried the Bahn-mi. It was OK. The pickled slaw and Sriracha really made the sandwich. The bread was a bit too thick and some small bits were very soggy. Also, the banhmi had this sauce (Sriracha mayo???) that didn't really belong in a banhmi, imo. Overall though, it was fine. I woke up hungover that day so the carby bread was really appreciated. 😂

This was MUCH tastier than it looked - I really enjoyed it! Excellent service from the flight attendant in First, who gave me a warm welcome as a oneworld frequent flyer.

LAX-CUN
Lunch:
Entrée Salad with egg. (Other option was Beef Sandwich)
This was ok - the cauliflower was marinated in curry, which overwhelmed the flavor of the dish.

Both meals were delicious. The breakfast was very filling, as was the dinner. I know it has been mentioned before, but I can't get over the fact that it's a real filet! I would pay $35 in a restaurant and be happy. It's also great to see that even the disposable napkins retain the button hole.

I agree...the omelette seems like the safe (and better) choice....love salsa but not with mango and pineapple...yuck.

Looks like 220 miles is the cut-off for water service in Y according to the website so that should cover most intra-CA flights....PDX-SEA flights would still be too short....correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Y get little orange juices pre-COVID on this route (mainline)? Glad to see that AS is just about back to pre-COVID catering although it still looks like PDX-LAS is the odd-ball route with zero food in Y or F.

This came up last year and AS disclosed it was because of.. I believe unexpected turbulence on this route that they don’t provide F/B. The original post is in my post history somewhere if you want to find the original info.

Not sure about Y but F used to get a beverage service and a little bag of fruit/nut mix on PDX-SEA. That is unless FAs used fake turbulence as an excuse. Proactive FAs would usually take drink orders on the ground.

Unfortunately, on many QX routes, if someone has farted on a different aircraft within a 200 nm radius of your flight, it has created enough turbulence on your flight for a service suspension.

Anyone who can predict what sort of service, including a particular name brand of booze, will exist seven months from now probably has a bridge connecting Manhattan to the next borough to sell you really cheaply.

I don't typically fly this route but I will say that is a VERY odd reason...do they not provide beverages either? This has got to be the first route I've seen that never has food or beverages due to turbulence in the future. It would seem like SEA-LAS would have a similar flight route but I guess not enough turbulence to justify cancelling all food or beverages for all future flights. Does WN serve beverages/snacks on PDX-LAS?

I wonder if the salsa is specific to the Hawaii flights?

Pre-order is now available for my SEA-DCA flight on 5 August and the Pulled Pork Breakfast bowl says it comes with Pico de Gallo. No mention of a mango salsa.

Might still stick with the omelette, even if it is probably the same as my 2019 flights...

Hoping for the Miso Cod option of the flight back. That looks tasty based on pictures.

i think it was a cost saving decision made long ago. Not sure if/when the gluten free crackers will return. Write to alaska listens and let them know they’re missed. It’s possible they could bring them back.

That's disappointing to hear - but thanks for the reply! It's a pretty standard offering for airlines to offer special meals, and food sensitivities/allergies are becoming increasingly common so I hope Alaska considers it.

AS canned any special meals before the turn of this century, if I recall. I also recall that having the F&C platter available as an ordering option for F (in more recent years) would make it so most of the people, most of the time could have something they could or would want to eat.

Speaking of canned, to the extent my memory is now a bit fuzzy as to timing, it may be from consuming too much canned wine over the past year.

I had the pulled pork breakfast last week. It was surprisingly good. I was not given any pico de gallo. I might try to remember to bring a tiny bottle or tube of hot sauce on another trip.

Breakfast bread was from La Brea Bakery and was superb. There was one per person, darn it.

Yeah, but the F&C platter gets old and I end up spreading Brie on apple wedges. Lack of special meals on AS is definitely a reason I won't buy F tickets from AS and I'll continue flying DL occasionally.

We've flown DL F twice in the last few weeks. They continue to only have dreadful box meals, not nearly as good as the AS fruit and cheese choice or the Mediteranean tapas. It is all a strange combination of processed food. It's been a real disappointment. I don't know when they plan to return to hot meals.
