New PDX (PDXNext) Main Terminal Design

Looking forward to when travel is normal again... The Port of Portland released renderings of the new main terminal that is scheduled to open in 2025.

I hope this does not mean the carpet will be going away.

I hope the "nature-infused interiors" include a new, very large Alaska Lounge.

This rendering shows what appears to be a patch of carpet in the check-in area, which is radically different from anything I've ever seen (not sure if this is the final design or just a "concept").

The aerial view is a little misleading in showing only larger jets. Won't a number of the gates be occupied by RJs? Maybe those are out of view on the far west side?

From what I understand the new AS lounge will be 3-4 times the size of the one today once the dust settles..........

A few new photos here, although still no rendering of a future expanded lounge.

From this article:

"It'll be the Instagram moment," says Lia Peacock, designer at ZGF [the architect], with a laugh. In other words, the vibe of the space will probably draw our attention away from those customary shoe selfies. (Don't worry: The airport will still have plenty of carpet, along with other flooring materials better suited to certain new spaces.) There's a Pacific Northwest wow factor to the main terminal designs that Lia hopes travelers experience when they pass through it for the first time. She calls it an "immersive forest experience," which sounds like our kind of thing.
Maybe I'm too old to understand, but I hope the architects put function over form. To me, the last thing an airport needs to do is worry about "Instagram moments."

No one (sane) visits a city because it has a pretty airport.

Sane people choose a connecting airport because it it "pretty" (i.e., good amenities, easy to navigate, etc.)

It would be a sin not to explore SIN, I like the renderings for PDX; open, bright & spacious with character.

Maybe all the greenery is a place for the homeless to setup tents.... you know, so you can get the Portland experience without even leaving the airport.

When will the connector between the two sides reopen? I liked the entire airside section being connected after security.

I'm pretty sure I heard that won't be coming back. It was definitely a nice setup in the past. I'd regularly go through security on the D/E side and circle back to my B/C gate and save lots of time.
