Cancelled flight, compensation not transferable?

I had relatives on the SEA-IAH flight that was cancelled (see other thread). Phone agent said that compensation was tied to their names and not able to used by anyone else? Is that true? Doesn’t sound right.
If they ask for the emailed certificate with a PIN code, I thought anyone could use those funds.

No, I believe the voucher is tied to the original traveller.

Absolutely correct. They will either need to be flying or paying for the flight (in other words, if you use the compensation for partial payment and their name is on the credit card that pays for the rest of the flight, another person can be the one flying).

Basically this is a way to keep people from selling AS flight compensation.

Exactly. You'd have a nice little cottage industry building up if it were otherwise.
