With the ending of the AS, and AA partnership what are the viable alternatives for using AS miles to get to the caribean and south america?

LATAM for now to South America (until their DL partnership takes them away like AM drifted off), bupkiss, nada, nil, nothing for the Caribbean.

People keep saying this, but DOJ will have a say. With the DL/KE venture, a stipulation was that DL can not materially interfere with KE’s existing US partnerships.

That would be nice, because otherwise AS is completely hosed for any partners to Latin America, just their own Mexico/CR service.

For the Caribbean, best bet is likely FLL, then get a flight on B6 or WN (or NK if you are feeling particularly daring).

Caribbean fares from the West Coast are often not that expensive. Might not be worth the two tickets and hassle...just book AA or DL all the way.

Plus the stress of having unprotected connections in both directions would probably outweigh the benefits conferred by status...
