SEA to Monterey, CA (MRY) Announced

Just got a push notification from a local affiliate that Alaska has announced non-stop service between SEA and Monterrey starting in June 2020. Hallelujah!!

missydarlin Jan 15, 2020 11:11 am

To clarify

It's between Seattle and Monterey (California), not Monterrey (Mexico)

jrl767 Jan 15, 2020 11:13 am

MRY is MUCH more believable (and MUCH better) than MTY

Klrduks Jan 15, 2020 11:14 am

Sorry (Damn auto correct.) Yes, MRY.

elCheapoDeluxe Jan 15, 2020 11:31 am

Would be great if we could get the thread title fixed! Almost didn't click except I thought, "well maybe I'll be lucky and it was misspelled". Happy to hear about MRY.

I think this is a great addition....I flew SAN-MRY back in November and the "easy" intra-CA E175 upgrade didn't happen as the flight was packed...they can definitely handle another flight (or two).

Alaska Airlines to launch daily nonstop service between Seattle and Monterey, California

Photos(1)

SEATTLE, Jan. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines announced today it will begin daily nonstop service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) in central California, further solidifying Alaska as the number one airline between the Pacific Northwest and the Bay Area. The new, year-round service is scheduled to begin June 18, and it will be the only nonstop flight offered between the two cities.

"We're working hard to connect destinations where our guests want to fly along the West Coast," said David Besse, Alaska's manager of network planning. "Our customers throughout the Central Coast won't have to drive several hours to catch a flight from other Bay Area airports. They can stay close to home and fly directly to Seattle, and connect with all the possibilities at our hometown hub."

Alaska remains committed to offering the most nonstop flights from Sea-Tac, with Monterey becoming the 92nd nonstop destination this summer.

"This is a great day for the Central Coast. We're excited to welcome Alaska Airlines and its service to Seattle to our community and our region," said Michael La Pier, Executive Director of Monterey Regional Airport. "Our travelers have been asking for this new service for some time. We're very pleased that Alaska has expanded our partnership and shown confidence that we can and will support this new route."

Alaska currently offers nonstop jet service between San Diego and Monterey. So, in addition to flyers along the Central Coast traveling south to sunny San Diego, they'll soon be able to head north to the spectacular scenery of the Pacific Northwest.

The all-jet service between Seattle and Monterey will be provided by Alaska's sister carrier, Horizon Air, flying the Embraer 175 aircraft featuring first class and premium class cabins. On the E175, every seat is either a window or aisle – there are no middle seats. Guests will enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity, hundreds of free movies and TV shows that can be streamed on personal devices and free texting while onboard. It's all part of Alaska's award-winning service and focus on offering low fares and great value to our guests.

Tickets for the new Seattle-Monterey service go on sale today. To purchase, visit www.alaskaair.com or call 1-800-ALASKAAIR (800-252-7522 for Hearing & Speech Impaired (TTY): Dial 711 for Relay Services).

I'd take both! :D

Glad to see AS expanding. Wonder if it'll end up as a coterminal? ;)

As in “sorry, due to bad weather your flight from SFO is now departing from MRY”. Please board your shuttle bus at the lower level for a scenic bus ride down Hwy US-1” ?

;)

The inaugural would be fun but I will just be getting back from NYC late June 16. Work will get in the way. Oh, wait...…...;)

Any chance they’ll add a second TSA channel? MRY is awful to fly out of. Horrid waits at the single security check and poor services post-security.

Perhaps attend smilie school one these days. Or research my posting history specifically regarding the re-routing of flights to alternative airports. I believe it happened to me once (OAK) and I reported that it wasn’t a bad experience compared to the alternative options.

Is that a thing? No need for those in my neck of the woods. If I was smiling any more than I am, I would consume my ears. ;) Jesting aside, just seems counterproductive to discuss IRROPS what-if's months before service commencement. Maybe I will give it a "fly!"

Smiles from Singapore. Leaving HKG tomorrow and wilk be in LAX tonight.
