9k to 75k

Hello Flyers,

I am 9,531 miles short of 75k this year (8,208 miles if my last EK flight posts in time, but I saw others say it takes 6+ weeks to post). It's short in partner/AS miles so I can make it with either AS or partner to finish it.

Is it worth it, there are not many tangible benefit from Gold to 75k? I would be flying out of SEA. 2 transcon RT would do it but they are 600-700~ each leg at the moment. If the EK miles post then I could do SEA-BOS (8736) or SEA-EWR (8400) in F and it would give me enough miles.

Cheers

Is MVPG 75K actually worth it?

When were your EK flights? In my experience, EK has posted between 2 days and two weeks. If they haven't posted within 14 days you can request a manual posting on the website or freehand an email, scan & attach your boarding passes and send it to [email protected]. I find this faster than online requests.

The biggest tangible benefit of 75K is the 50,000 bonus RDM and 4 lounge passes. At 2 cpm, the bonus is worth $1000.00 (yet also enough for a CX J North America to Asia) and the lounge passes $200. Also an additional 4 GGUs. Other benefits include upgrades, 75K's on any fare, eligible or inelgible even on an award will always be upgraded before an MVPG once the 75K window opens. Additionally, as an MVPG75K you can select premium seating at booking on any fare.

Don't rule out Hawaii or Costa Rica, or do a circle trip with sub 500 mile hops which earn 500 EQM minimum. SEA-PDX-SFO-LAX-HNL-ANC-PDX-SEA is 8925 EQM. It really depends on how much you want to fly and how much you want to spend. If you have a companion certificate, take a friend and split the total. Both will earn the same EQM. Only you can determine if the benefits are viable for your travel patterns.

For me, it really depends on where you want to fly in December. Accordingly, my upcoming status non-run run is to HNL, where I'm most likely not to have severe weather issues, including either not making it, or not making it home.

Excellent point! There should also be some decent prices in the first 10 days of December.

Few days ago, 11/28. I will do the manual request if it hasn't posted by then, thanks. I guess the 50k miles would be worth the fares of getting me to 75k. CX J redemption from SEA relatively easy to find...

SEA-PDX-SFO-LAX-HNL-ANC-PDX-SEA sounds like a fun trip and a nice Christmas story. How does one go about looking up fares for that? Any smart ways to do it? Cheers!

My go to Mileage run route is LAXBOS, which I frequently book in Main Cabin (not Saver) for $210-230 round trip. I actually enjoy it because itís an easy upgrade and quick turnaround, so I spend a Saturday doing some work or catching up on TV shows.

Might make sense to position yourself to LA and try that.

The easiest way is to use the multi-city search on the desktop website. You can create open jaw & circle trip itineraries with up to 4 sectors. Each sector may have multiple connections between origin & destination.

Double that amount range for December travels, or more.

Edit: quick scan shows $437 would be the cheapest on saver fares, goes all the way up to $800+ closer to Christmas.

You can do LAX-BOS for $287 from 12/15 - 12/16 on AS. These are two week advance purchase fares, so it won't be available after today. Early December fares are generally pretty reasonable. But the cheapest fares generally have a 2 - 3 week advance purchase requirement, so the window for purchasing these have pretty much already passed.

I would consider SEA-->FAI as I just did that for myself to clear 75k again for this year...it's not as far as east coast but the first class tickets are not that much more expensive than main to BOS or NYC area.

For reference, it's 1528 miles and with 75% FC EQM bonus, I netted 5366 miles from Seattle. Do that twice or in addition to an East Coast run and you would be good. Flight times are also good from Seattle for same day turnarounds from FAI.

Really, CX J is there just to pick up off the free premium seat tree.
I've had trouble finding premium cabin even for ONE tix. Makes me wonder about the value of Alaska Miles.
What's your secret?
Bold emphasis is mine, not OP
when I do fine it , its for hellish routing.
I second the reasonable paid first., if your lucky can get it one one trip.

Flexibility is key but just flew CX YVR-JFK ◊ 2 in F and CX J JFK-HKG//HKG-CPT ◊ 2 last month. Flying BA F ◊ 2 JNB-LHR-YVR ◊ 2 today. I also have CX J ◊ 1 SFO-HKG-AKL in February with international connecting AS service to the gateway. I flew multiple CX F awards last year from Australia & South Africa. We aren't talking QF here, although I have had a little success with QF F & J.

Why is it relevant when EK flights post? No matter when they post, they should credit retroactively as of the day they were scheduled to depart, so even if they don't post until 2020, they'll count towards your 2019 qualifying for the 2020 elite year.

Well, unlike most other airlines, AS drops your status faster than you'd drop a hot potato coming out of boiling oil on January 1 and some of us travel shortly thereafter.
