When starting a thread such as this it can be sort of helpful to provide some context on specifics.

Anyhow, for the benefit of others, here is the URL:
https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...er-overview:QF

Basically, the only part getting "decimated" are the cheaper economy fares. But yes, if you are an discount economy flier on QF, then it would sting. That said, does not seem the change is really out of alignment with many of AS other partners on discount economy tickets.

It's before Jan 2020. Doesn't that mean that notice was provided?

It would seem to me that posting this before 1/1/20 DOES mean that there was notice given... you may not like the policy, you may not like HOW MUCH time was given... but at least some notice was given.

the notice is “for flights taken on or after January 1, 2020”. Given it’s Nov 1, 2019, I would guess plenty of tickets have been sold with the old earnings rules in mind. I assume the OP is looking for a notice along the lines of “for flights booked after...”

This isn’t unusual, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

It looks like QF flights flown as AS codeshares still earn at 100%

For Alaska codeshare flights
For Qantas flights marketed by Alaska Airlines and purchased as Alaska Airlines flights (AS) 5000-5499, base miles and class of service bonuses earned are based on the Alaska Airlines earning chart. You can earn a mile for every mile for every mile you fly, when you book your Qantas flight here on alaskaair.com.

Decimated? Thatís a bit dramatic. Either book the codeshares or donít buy the deep discounted economy tickets if earning AS miles is important to you. Iím shocked we were able to earn 100% on all economy tickets this long.

That's more in line with other partners.
QF was an oddity.
That now makes SQ look better at 50%.

I will update the Mileage calculator Excel file.

Figured this was inevitable. Going to be much harder to get status next year for me - QF discounted econ was a great way to explore Australia and also gain a ton of AS miles & get status.

Well, I think the goal of almost all airlines at this point is to absolutely make it harder to gain status when only flying discounted economy, this is sort of by design...

LA was similar until July 1st, 2018. FJ still earns 100% on all but the 3 lowest Y fare buckets so QF wasn't really an oddity in that regard. SQ earns ZERO on anything below W so not really viable for earning with MP outside some decent PE fares from time to time.
