Earn Alaska miles on AA flights if I book through BA?

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to earn Alaska miles on AA metal by booking through BA? I don't need any more AA miles this year--not going to make the next tier by spend, so more miles is pointless. I could use the Alaska miles to keep MVP. So I looked at BA flights for my upcoming international trip, but there's nothing that really works expect of course the AA flights they also return in their search results. I am guessing I cannot do this but can't find it explicitly stated anywhere.

You can earn AS miles on international AA flights booked with AA. Technically, you cannot earn if booked with BA. However, it is the experience of many on this forum (myself included) AS will give you the miles if you save your boarding pass and email CS to request credit.

What do you gain by booking with BA? Why not book with AA directly?

What do you mean by "book through BA?"
BA or AA flight number ?
AA operated.
AS ff miles are only earned AA international flights. AA domsetic flights do not earn AS ff miles.

There are a few threads on this already, depending on the situation you booked.

Ok thanks all, I was having trouble figuring out the right keywords to search. I didn't actually realize I could still earn AS miles on AA flights, although I guess in that case I would not get any elite benefits. I'm not sure I'll keep MVP even if I do that this year, so maybe I won't bother.

Correct, you get no benefits. Also if you're in discounted Y you probably earn at a deeply reduced rate. That said, AA often has good deals in Y+ and J and on many routes, and the hard product is pretty good (for example, IMO AA > BA JFK-LHR), so they can be a good option for AS fliers.
