I believe you have to fly US to japan for 1 price then japan to LHR or CDG for another cost. you would be charged for each segment separately

JL does not offer Asia/Europe awards via AS Mileage Plan. The airlines offering this are Cathay and Finnair.

Are you asking if you can fly from the US to LHR on Japan Airlines? If so, no.

Would you know of a date for Cathay from Asia to Europe that I can look at?

It would appear that one day in the future Singapore Airlines is an option.

I very much enjoy Finnair, but looking for Europe to Asia to US. For US to Europe to Asia, Finnair works nicely, a combo of 50K vs 30K + 32.5K.

You can determine the available awards and airlines from one region to another region by using the charts at alaskaair.com:

You can't check CX availability on the AS website. The only way to confirm availability and book CX awards is to ring AS. Before doing that most people use either the QF or BA websites to check CX availability. You will need to open a BA or QF FF account (or both) to be able to check on those sites, but joining both is free. A caveat - finding availability on either QF or BA does not necessarily imply that AS will have the same availability. You will find a lot more information about booking CX awards in the following thread:

Cathay Pacific (CX) Award Redemption, Booking and Availability Ė 2019 and Later

Yep if it's not on the chart it's not a valid award.

Asia to/from Europe on Finnair
Hong Kong to/from Europe on Cathay
Nothing on JL
