But if you’re doing JNB, you’d want CX F not BA “second best business class in the world”... :p

Again, I can't argue with that either. :D Shall I stop now before I get any further behind? lol I have flown BA LHR-SEZ in paid J and didn't expect too much; I wasn't disappointed!!! Of course CX doesn't have F JNB/CPT-HKG, 3 cabin B777 from JNB & A350 from CPT.

Carrier imposed fees seem to be back to the original price. Seeing $175 for Y and $600 for J/F again.

What route are you looking at? LHR stopver? I booked JNB-LHR-YVR in all F for a little over $500. It used to be closer to $1K. I had also booked one itinerary in J. When an F opened on LHR-YVR, I upgraded it for 10K points and the price differential between J,J & J,F was an astounding..... wait for it..... 40 cents. The agent couldn't make it go away so I had to charge it. I am sure the CC transaction fee cost more than that. ;)

It's US-city-specific. Not all US destinations get the reduced BA surcharges.

Ok, thanks. That helps. Noticing that the surcharge appears to be based on the originating location. If I originate from EUG, it's $600, but if I change that to YVR, it's $385.30 even when using the same gateway to BA & same flights/dates (AUS-LHR-STR).
