SDC on award ticket for MVP, using gold miles

From my understanding......
MVP gold members get free same day confirmed changes (pending availability), on award tickets no matter who got the ticket.
MVP and general members pay $50 for SDC (outside CA), on award tickets.

I'm MVP gold if I get an award ticket for my friend (only MVP) using my miles, he does not pay $50 SDC fee, cause it was bought with miles from a MVP gold member.
If my MVP friend uses his miles to get my award ticket, I don't pay $50 SDC fee cause I'm MVP gold.

I'm trying to get around either of us paying $50 change fees for SDC. So if my logic is right I get his ticket (again I'm MVP gold), and he buys my ticket, neither of us get charged a changed fee. But if it was reversed, I got my own award ticket and he got his award ticket, he would get charged $50 fee.

There has been some discussion around this lately. The wording on the website was recently changed to make it seem like this is only the case if the Gold member is traveling on the same booking (“your fellow passengers”) as the non-status or MVP pax. While the discussion was around change fees, I suspect if true, it would apply to the SDC fee as well.

The wording now says:
As an MVP™ Gold, my change fees are waived. What about for my family?
While anyone traveling with you in the same reservation will have their luggage fees waived, the change fee will apply to all passengers other than the MVP Gold. The exception is if your fellow passengers are booked on an award ticket using your miles; in that case, change fees are waived.”

See the discussion here Policy Question - Change Fee
And in particular, https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30270476-post3.html and https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30271252-post4.html

It is a little vague and I’m not sure we have any data points to confirm or deny this change out in the wild yet but it does not seem like it (a change fee waiver on tickets booked with Gold miles) is a sure thing anymore.

Can confirm SDC doesn't carry to non-MVPG passenger booked with Gold miles (at least in my recent experience). Booked a r/t flight for a friend to come visit using my miles. We SDC'd her to a direct routing (LAX-IAD vs LAX-SEA-IAD) and agent required $50 to SDC.. Changes to the itinerary in advance were still covered by the fee waiver, but SDC fee is only waived if traveling on the same reservation.
Flying for Fun likes this.

this seems like be a very negative change, if the gold has to travel with the companion on award tickets to get the change fee waived.

even in SkyMiles, platinum can book award ticket for families and friends and cancel 72 hours before departure. (Not sure this is comparable, but just my own experience)
