For the AS Fare Experts... Do Tickets Booked in 'F' Inventory Ever Have Restrictions?

When booking a revenue ticket in First on AS that books into 'F' inventory, are all of these fares fully refundable F, no restrictions, no cancel/change fees, etc.? Or are only some of them full F, while others have restrictions?

If it is a paid ticket, "F" is always fully refundable and "P" is discounted and non-refundable. If you go to book a paid ticket and there is no "P" availability, it will display pricing for an F fare, and it will always be fully refundable.

I believe that I fares are a subset of P and therefore they do not fall under refundable.
we have both P and I fare flights and they are clearly non refundable, after 24 hours, of course.
one interesting fact, that when we received confirming email, it indicated that fare was Coach(I) fare.

F is fully refundable and changeable. P and I and both restricted and non-refundable FC fares and have a $125 change fee. 'I' is not really a subset of P, it's just a cheaper set of restricted FC fares that have K/V/L/Q fare basis codes. P booking class fares have H/M/B/S fare basis codes. There are no actual 'I' or 'P' fare basis codes, these are just the booking classes and the fares are filed using coach fare basis codes mentioned above.

Is this a reputable source? https://cwsi.net/alaska.htm

It lists "I" as refundable.

Absolutely not reputable. Infrequently updated and often error prone. You don't even need an EF account for this -- AS lists the fare rules and restrictions right on their website.

I'd be reluctant to give a definitive yes or no answer to the OP's question. In general I would expect F to be fully refundable without fees, etc. but to really know, one would need to look at the fare rules for the OP's ticket.

Note also that almost all airlines follow a "most restrictive rules" rule, so if there's another segment in less than F or if the ticket was the result of a change, the F rules wouldn't necessarily apply.

It's worth noting that F fares are now "restricted" in that they are not refundable in case of no-show (they used to be).

This is minor but worth pointing out... do remember to cancel some time before the flight.

I'm also not sure how strictly AS will enforce this depending on the situation (is there a flat tire rule?)

Note that also, a paid upfare to F (from anything but a full Y fare) will result in refund restrictions from the original ticket. Otherwise, everyone who wants a refund could just upfare to F and then refund the entire thing.

There was a period of "forgiveness" after the effective date but I am sure that is long past. :)

It doesn't appear that the poster upgraded into full F anyway. Selecting a random date of May 2nd the cheapest main fare in T class is $129 while the First Cabin I, P & F fares are $289, $409 & $549 respectively.

Thanks for pointing out the restrictions on upfaring into F. That is easily missed.
