Routing rules all say these are V basis even if the booking class is different. Looks like this is a Y-up fare. Lowest booking class I can find into First is K.

Even though P bucket is available on 5/21 (searching ANC-SEA), I'm not seeing a P fare filed. I thought they were filed as their own fares previously? Searching for Booking Class: P returns only these Y-up fares and the booking class is not P.

How are these handled for IRROPs/downgrades? Do they get AL access? What other asterisks are behind these? I know it's a little early to have answers.

Has there ever been a P fare filed? or is this just business as usual? for example LAX-BOS has had P for a while but they are all just filed like K fares for example. Similar to Basic on carriers where there is no B in the fare basis.

I though they were, or at least in the past P was a discount true First on AS, and not an instant Y-up fare.

Dont know exactly. beckoa spotted the I bucket when Basic Economy/Saver was rolled out but it was all zeroed out and no fares were filed that mentioned it. Now they're available on a limited basis.

I fare is on the AS chart. Can't remember if this was spotted during the last discussions or not. Same 75% CoS as P or F, so we know it's definitely a paid fare class.

ETA: AL lounge access has been updated to include I was having access.

The K is just the first letter of the fare basis code, it's not the actual booking class (the booking class shown by EF is incorrect). The actual booking class is listed in the routing rules on EF under the "BK" field. In this case, the true booking class is P. You won't find any fare basis codes that actually start with P. They use "branded" fare products for these where the first letter is some coach fare class and the fact that these are actually First Class fares is indicated by the 'F' in the second to last letter of the fare basis code. This allows the airlines to file a wide-range of FC fares which actually book into a small set of booking classes. They do similar things with their Basic Economy/Saver type fares which all book into a single booking class, even though the fare basis codes start with a variety of coach fare classes. When booking these fares, there is a dual inventory check (there must be inventory in both the coach bucket indicated by the first letter of the fare basis code, as well as the booking class bucket).

Only AA still refers to these fares as "Y-UP" or "Economy with an instant upgrade". AS, DL, and UA now fully recognize them as true First Class fares -- just with restrictions (such as non-refundability and change fees).

Minor data point: P does still exist for those who haven't spotted one lately. I have a P fare (discount First) coming back from SAN to SEA in April that I purchased directly earlier this year. Shows as "Class: P (First)" on the email receipt.

Actually, all the discount/restricted AS FC fares still appear to book into P booking class. Presumably, they are adding the I booking class to give them somewhat finer-grained control on FC availability. For example, DL restricted FC fares book into one of 4 different booking classes (C/D/I/Z).

AS pretty much had as many available fares that fell under "P" as did the others (using multiple seat buckets) and the fare would go up (to a higher fare basis that books into P) as the cabin filled.

Don't think you understand. DL has multiple fares that book into each of the C/D/I/Z booking classes (there are no DL fare basis codes that start with those letters). With the dual inventory check, having the additional booking classes gives you more control than when you are mapping all the FC fares into a single booking class.

I do understand. I think AS just auto-mapped them, still within P, when the cabin would fill.

I don't know what you mean by "auto-mapped" -- they used to all map into P.

But it looks like the I fares are active now, with Q/L/V/K fare basis going into I booking class and S/B/M/H fare basis going into P booking class. This now allows them to zero out/limit the lowest restricted FC fares (now in I booking class), while still having separate inventory levels for the upper tiers of the restricted FC fares which are in the P booking class. Previously, P basically served as one big switch for all the restricted FC fares.
