What's Going On at SFO Gate 54? (Press Event Introducing New Cabin Experience)
Looks like they've changed the gate into a room for a "private event". Might be something to do with a new menu from what I can see inside.

New Airbus interior? Isn't there like one of those in fleet right now?

They changed the interiors of the former Virgin Airbus' to have AS-branded colors (blue/green instead of red).

Media event for the new interior on the A321. Had product reps (Gogo, Recaro, Sky Chefs, etc), media, and AS execs on a flight to show it off. Sky chefs catered the event

Alaska Airlines invited me to San Francisco yesterday for a look at their redesigned in-flight experience, including a charter flight on their first retrofitted Airbus A321 (registration N928VA). For those unaware, Alaska is historically an all-Boeing company but inherited an Airbus fleet with the acquisition of Virgin America. Those planes have fewer (but larger) first-class seats as well as built-in entertainment systems in the main cabin. They’re now retrofitting the Virgin America fleet for brand consistency across all their aircraft. |

Interesting that an Alaska rep says the 12 seat configuration should provide a 75% upgrade rate to Gold and 75K flyers- wonder how those numbers change when you look at the individual elite group versus bundling them in. Surely 75K numbers would increase some but maybe they don't want to share that number.
Long term, though, I think all elites will enhance their upgrade numbers when you're on aircraft with 12 or 16 seats compared to 8, so I'm willing to give up that comfy Airbus F seat for better clearance odds down the line. |
