Selecting seats with Saver Fares using Chase UR portal (or similar)
 
Normally we’ve used Chase UR to buy tickets on AS, since we get all the same benefits as buying direct at AS.com and we have points to use. But they have not always been able to select seats for us - with a Saver Fare, does this mean the opportunity to select a seat is lost?

If you contact AS or chase you can get the AS confirmation number. Then pull up the reservation on the AS site and see if any seats are available for saver tickets. They will usually be in the last few rows of the plane. If none show up on the AS site all of the saver seats have been taken. If that is the case you will need to monitor and see if any open up. Otherwise you will be assigned one at the gate.

Got that, for some reason I thought the rules were I could *only* select seats *at booking*.

i just booked a saver ticket on alaska and when trying to select seats on the alaska site, it says "Saver fares don't allow seat changes after purchase. However, you can still purchase Premium Class seats for anyone on your itinerary. Saver fare rules still apply." and doesn't display any of the saver seats as available. when looking at the seat preview on the site, there are plenty of saver fares. gonna chat/call them and see if its possible to select
