I noted the following data for FTers:
The class of travel (F)
The route (HKG-LAX)
Date of travel (March 25, 2020)
Where I saw it (BA.com)
That the phone agent (Dennis in Phoenix) saw the same thing and was able to book it promptly and efficiently.
I commented that I was seeing a lot of availability as well.
I realize I only have 8 posts, but I’ve been reading FT for years and years. I travel a ton and am trying to help.
How the heck is that not helpful and in the exact spirit of this thread man?

Relax man, it’s all good, we’re all helping each other get seats!

I believe so, since at that point it is morning in Hong Kong 330 days out and they load it. But it may be 330 at that time. I know it isn't midnight US. It's been a few months since I wanted to book right as it came out, so I'm sorry my memory is a bit foggy on this.

Are you trying to say that AS can only book flights up to 330 days out? Because that is not correct. AS can book book flights 331 days out. You cannot select 331 days from the home page but you can search using the calendar and book 331 days out so it would reasonable to expect that since the website can book 331 days out so can an agent but I have not tested this.

That's good information, thanks. If anyone has the opportunity to narrow down the exact availability time please let us know.

So what is the situation of booking close-in awards on cathay recently?
There used to be lots of F award <3 days, but now I can't find any, are they all gone?
Also I heard there was a fiasco about booking intra-asia awards <3 days is not allowed, but I can't find the details now. If I book something like NRT-HKG(stopover)-SFO. Do I have to do it at T-72 of the NRT-HKG leg?

Also, SFO and LAX have more 77Ws with no F and no more 747s with 9 F. New routes like SEA and IAD do not have F. All told it means less F than some years ago. Might have to “suffer” in J...

what is incredibly maddening is that CX seems to have adopted a blanket ban on F award space. It's not like all of the space (especially ex-lax) got booked up by the error fare. Flight after flight I see with F4, F5, F6, a few days to a week before departure, and not a single one of them has space when it used to be reliably released. It's like cathay has just crossed their arms and refused to release space even when every other factor says releasing space makes sense.
Of course I don't work in RM, but it's incredibly frustrating to see not a single F seat ex-US released anywhere through the end of the year, and to have all the availability pulled a few weeks ago was a low move. I really hope somebody proves me wrong by finding an F seat somewhere, anywhere, or that CX reconsiders this strategy.
Availability returns to "normal" in 2020, and I imagine sometime in 2020 they will start releasing close-in seats again. But as of right now, all I can do is vent my frustration.

Hi Everyone,
I am not sure if I am posting in the right place, but seems I can't find the answer.
I was lucky and blessed to be able to redeem one-way Cathay via Alaska miles. My itinerary looks like this, LAX - HKG (First) and HKG - TPE (Business). I do see the intra-asia aircraft change from time to time. Currently HKG - TPE shows flying A330 (3 Class config). My question is if on the day that my flight change to 77W with First class, will I get bump up to First? or stay in Business? Or if found out the aircraft type changed couple days before departure, will Alaska help to reassign seat with out change fee? (Since I am already use 70K for first class award) Thanks, everyone. Any thought?

Others, please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe CX flies a 4 Cabin 77W on this route. Three cabin configurations are Economy, Premium Economy and Business. CX even flies this aircraft without the 4th cabin F to North America on some routings.

It’s also FAR more likely you will get swapped into Regional J than a plane with F.
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...ent-swaps.html
Grab a meal in Pier F and don’t sweat the 60 minutes to TPE. The seat on your 3-class 333 is fine (and way better than the regional J seat).

There would be no change fee to move up into a cabin you have already paid for.
