AS 1129 PHL to LAX
T-24 MVP GOLD and companion
I was asked when I checked in if I wanted to upgrade to first class. However I was on the wait list so no idea why I was automatically upgraded. Oh well

2/25/19. AS1001 SFO-DCA G75K upgrade at T-18
#1 on list of 17. Upgrade occurred with 3F on an A320. Last year, 3F open would have meant only upgrades at gate.
I'm cautiously optimistic this means Alsska has improved the upgrade algorithm that releases U space on Airbus flights.

Another odd experience with the upgrade process for me. This was a very early flight, 6:00AM departure from SEA. When I checked in at T-24 there were 8 seats showing for sale on the AS app in first class. Before I went to bed that evening, I was showing 6th on the list with 8 seats still available for sale and no one upgraded.
When I woke at 4AM the day of travel, I checked again - first class showed completely sold out and I was now 2nd on the upgrade list. Where'd those 6 people go? Why not just show them on the list as upgraded while within the check-in 24 hour window?
I was also #1 on the upgrade list for my next leg of SAN-PVR when we landed with 2 seats available. But after an hour at the lounge in SAN I was suddenly #3 on the list with 2 people showing upgraded ahead of me. Not sure how they managed to check-in 10 minutes before boarding started... I felt like maybe the gate agent skipped me because apparently she had been paging me to manually verify my passport at the gate (no one in Seattle did) but I was in the lounge.
I find the randomness and lack of transparency very frustrating
