booking two tickets from co-term?

I have booked a mutliple city
JFK SFO, SJC JFK

There is a SFO JFK on the same day that I want. However, the flight time is too late for me and I cant take that flight.

so I booked a morning departure on SJC JFK.

is it okay for me to book a redeye SFO JFK on the same day and when the time comes, i will try to do SDC on SFO JFK on a day time flight. If successful, can i cancel the return portion of the multiple city ticket (SJC JFK)
if failure to same day confirmed, I refund the SFO JFK...

Does this plan work in practice?

You can't SDC between SFO and SJC.

You must keep the same origin, destination, thru, and connection cities. Co-terminal changes are not allowed.

Neil

Can I buy two tickets 1
ticket 1) SJC - JFK
2) SFO- JFK.

refund 1) if I can SDC on a better flight.

I think he is talking about SDCing a red-eye SFO-JFK flight to a later one? I'm not sure; it's not that clear.

SJC JFK -- early morning on Day X

SFO- JFK redeye on the same Day X arriving Day X+1

at T-24 of SFO-JFK check-in, SDC to Day X SFO JFK arriving on the same Day.
Cancel SJC-JFK before check-in close.

if the above fails. Fly SJC -JFK and refund SFO-JFK

Why wouldn't this work?

It's not even an impossible itinerary. For all they know you have a flight JFK-SFO/OAK/SJC in the afternoon of day X with a different carrier.

yeah. it is actually possible, now that i think about it.

I can cancel the inbound on a return ticket for travel credits, right?

Nope, and no SDC/standby either on a Saver fare.

No. Well, yes, but minus $125 cancellation fee, so not like typical.

i didnt really pay too much attention about saver fare since i dont often refund. but it seems to be bad for elites...

Are you sure about that? My understanding was that you can’t cancel a Saver ticket for any value.

Can I change, cancel, or refund a Saver fare?

No changes or refunds are allowed to Saver fares outside of our 24-hour cancellation policy.
