Did the Earthquake in Anchorage Delay Your Flight (11/30/2018)?
At 829 AM Alaska Standard Time on November 30 an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.0 occurred 5 miles ... The tsunami warning will remain in effect until further notice ...
How to stay safe now Stay away from the beach. Tsunamis can travel hundreds of miles per hour, so you can’t escape if you’re close enough to see one |
Lots of stuff broken.
Some roads out of commission. Hope everyone is ok. It was really rockin'. |
ANC tweeted that the airport is open again and flights are arriving and departing, but the FAA says there is still a ground stop for both inbound ANC traffic as well as overflight traffic. AS87 looks like it did a U-turn near Yakutat. Looks like the cargo heavies that we’re on approach are being allowed to land, though. Lots of road damage in Anchorage, though, including at the International Airport Road/Minnesota interchange. |
AS131 also appears to have done a U-turn near Ketchikan and appears to be headed back to PDX. |

Massive earthquake shakes Alaska, damage in Anchorage
https://www.ktuu.com/content/news/BR...501647481.html
ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaskans felt a large earthquake that shook South Central at around 8:30 a.m. this morning. According to officials with the USGS, the earthquake initially was a 6.6 magnitude but later adjusted the magnitude to a 7.0, and was centered north of Anchorage. The National Weather Service said it was a 7.0 magnitude quake as well. Several aftershocks of diminishing strength, but still significant, were felt. Directly following the massive quake, an emergency alert was issued for a tsunami warning, saying that there was danger on the coast for a tsunami, and instructing people to go to high ground. |

They've got a shower of water shooting down in the upstairs land-side lobby.
There's a video on Facebook, but I don't think it can be posted easily here. But it does sound like things are back up and running, for the most part. That was a DOOZY! I did NOT enjoy that one. |
Here's live ATC of the tower and approach during the earthquake:

Just had another sizable aftershock.
