Complimentary Same Day Change
Checked in yesterday on an LAS - SFO flight, and noticed complimentary change to any other flight during the day. Not even standby, can just pick whatever seat I wanted, free of charge instantly. Is this something new? Or, maybe, I've never noticed this benefit before now.
Oh, they gave me the chocolates this time. By the way, keep forgetting this, as MVP G or 75K, we get a free drink? Just say, "hey, I'm XXX status, can I please have my free drink?"

the same day change has been a benefit for quite a while now

The same day confirmed change fee is waived for MVP® Gold Mileage Plan™ members and those traveling in the same reservation.

Free same day changes have always been a benefit of MVPG and 75K, as has the free drink. To get the free drink simply order a drink when the drink cart comes around, 90% of the time they already know you have status and its free, if they don't know simply tell them you are a gold.
Good to see Missy back!!

Gone on those fares, at least, yes. I've not seen any indication that they plan to take away complimentary SDC from Golds (though wouldn't be surprised if that came down sometime in the future as an exclusive 75K perk.

To respond back to the original question: SDC has always (or at least for many years) been possible for all travelers, and has likewise been free for MVPG.
Probably the reason you were surprised by seeing this option is that AS only began prominently offering this as an option during OLCI in the mobile app recently (I believe in June). Before that, I would always call AS to SDC.

I have found trying to SDC on the app doesent work, or at least twice this week it told me no flights available but when I called in I had no issues changing to an earlier flight, an on the return to a later flight. So I wouldn't rely on the app.

Just to clarify, it is not 24 hour change, it is SAME DAY.
"Your new flight must depart on the same calendar day as the original departure."
You cannot change from a 12 PM flight on Tuesday to a 6 PM flight on Monday.

Looks like the red-eye exception has even been removed so truly same day only.

I recently heard from a Chat agent that same day change is possible without keeping the same connection/thru airports, contrary to posted policy. Are there known exceptions, or was that just YMMV?
