The New SFO Alaska Lounge (Opened 8/31/2021)
And here it comes....https://www.bizjournals.com/sanfranc...nited-ual.html Looks like a two floor lounge built on top of Terminal 2. This would be amazing!!! |
And the large picture splashed at the top of the web page is .... Oscar Munoz, UA CEO
|
“Alaska has made the airport aware of its interest in leasing some of the build-back space for a potential lounge but has not signed a lease for additional space in Terminal 2," he said. “ […] Asked whether SFO is marketing the build-back space to other airlines, [SFO spokesman Doug] Yakel said: “Not at the moment.” […] “American is scheduled to vacate Terminal 2 in March 2020, when they will commence operations in our new Terminal 1 and Boarding Area B,” Yakel said. As for the space occupied by that American lounge, Yakel said, “We are interested in providing additional concession space in Terminal 2, so it could be repurposed for that, but no final decision has been made at this point.” |

If Alaska does sign a lease for space, it will appear on the airport commission agenda for approval. Nothing about it in last week's minutes, and this week's meeting has been cancelled. They regularly approve leases for airport space at these meetings. That may be the first place you'll see an official notice of a lease on the table.

The highlighted information and its formatting sure look familiar. |
It look like they won't have to throw away the "No Priority Pass" signs from the SEA lounges....just ship them down to the new SFO lounge in a few years :)
|
The space currently occupied by the American Admirals Club would make an excellent third party lounge—-really without any changes aside from maybe new furniture. SFO has very few Priority Pass lounges... |
The article says they want to turn the current Admirals club into retail. |

Sounds like they are going the same route as DL in putting it up high with a nice view of the runways and bay. That would be quite nice. I still can't believe that VX never bothered with a lounge and that AA built something nice for such a short period of time.

Maybe they'll do something in the old ATC Tower Building:
https://www.flysfo.com/about-sfo/air...-control-tower SFO’s Former Air Traffic Control Tower Building Gets a New LifeSFO’s skyline continues to evolve, offering new opportunities to connect passengers with the excitement of the airfield. With a central location right above Terminal 2, the former airport traffic control tower1 along with two floors of the base structure below it were recently removed to improve seismic safety.Taking advantage of this prime location, in its place, SFO is building back two new levels of space totaling over 50,000 square feet with outstanding views of the airfield. The project will include airline lounge and office space, as well as an additional gate at Terminal 2. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. |
