Alaska or United First Class SFO to IAD?

Have my choice of these two for a trip in late September. I've never flown Alaska except up the coast. Which airline would you book and why?

I can make a recommendation of what not to do - don't book a UA A320/737 or an AS 737.

Both the AS A320 and the UA 752/772 are quite decent products for a domestic flight - between these two, choose based on your schedule, price, and loyalty preferences.

UA 752/777 are flatbeds

AS 320's are barcaloungers (ex-VX planes) for now.

Those are your best two options (in order) for seats.

I agree on the recommendations so far. I just did LAX-IAD RT, flying out on an AS 320 and back on a UA 752.

If you want to sleep, the 752 is definitely better, but the 320 isn't bad for sleeping if it fits your schedule better, and both are very comfortable awake.

The IFE system on the UA plane is better, but AS has more variety.

I'd put AS food quality slightly higher than UA, with slightly larger quantity on UA. Service on AS was better, but it was good on UA, too.

I agree on staying away from the UA 737. I can't get comfortable in those F seats - they're shaped wrong. I'm more comfortable in an E+ seat with an empty middle than the F seats.

UA on the evening 787 out of SFO, and on the morning return in a 757. The 787 is better to sleep in, and the 757 is better than the ancient 772 they fly in the afternoon. Unfortunately there isn't a return 787, or I would say to just take that both ways.

I am taking that Boeing 787 and that was the only reason for flying UA. However, the ex Virgin Planes I love and find most comfortable in.
