Right. Mine (upcoming) is YYZ-LHR roundtrip.

Yep no APD since the stop isn't long enough so the fee is around 50% lower.

APD is waived even for some UK destinations like INV...

Currently:
$1333.61 + $25.00 partner award fee = $1358.61 when booked as round trip SEA-LHR-SEA

$1,050.61 + $25.00 = $1,075.61 when booked as one-ways

About $200 cheaper when not returning from LHR. Cheaper still when booked from YVR.

I do see some F available in September LAX-BCN via MEX & LHR. Still $600 with a LHR stopover. 787-9 MEX-LHR. Hard to swallow $1.2K for a return when you can book a BA non-stop Y return for $870. I booked SYD-NAN-LAX return on FJ in economy V with 100% credit to Mileage Plan for $693. While I understand some are OK paying the fees, personally I can't justify BA awards especially in premium cabins where it is often noted that the experience is anything but.

This was my attitude for ages, but from lower-fee airports like INV and CPH I could justify it--depending on the cost of alternatives. For me, 57.5k AA miles + $250 for a one-way CPH-LHR-SEA in J (even if it's a fairly mediocre J product) beats $1k for PE via LGW on DY. Still a hard no if paying YQ + APD, though.

I do note that the SQ partner page on the Alaska website says:
"Coming soon to Alaska Mileage Plan members
Alaska Mileage Plan members will soon be able to redeem miles with Singapore Airlines."

This same language is not present on the EI and AY partner pages.

Once most of the VX digestion has occurred with Mileage Plan, I think they'll have additional labor to use allowing this to be coded.

So it would be wise for some to book BA US City-LHR-INV and just get off in London to avoid the outrageous fees. Thanks.

No, it's charged on the outbound UK flight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Passenger_Duty

As mentioned, UK APD is an origination fee for outbound flights.

The time I redeemed AS miles to fly INTO LHR I paid $5.60 (TSA fees). And miles. The end.

I flew home from ZRH though.

On BA? Perhaps AA or another airline?

Must have been decades ago and/or not BA. APD adds about 50%. "Fuel" surcharge applies regardless of direction.

Flew without surcharges in 2008. Think they started shortly after.
