Chicago (ORD) Gates Moved (Again) - Now G4 & G6 (March 14, 2019)

Not sure what the change entails, but seem AS is getting further away from AA, as ORD gates move away from AA gates. It's still Terminal 3 at ORD and closer to the ticketing so advantage is shorter walk, but gates in this area of Terminal 3 has flights from Jetblue and Spirit.

Update 2019, now in G4/G6..... where next.....

I liked H4 as it was close to the Admirals Club. But the new gates might be even closer to the one located next to L1: https://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInform...s/ord-club.jsp

Not a big fan of the L gates as they're further from the L + Frontera and Burrito Beach.

H3 really was a great gate.

They bounced around between L1, L2B, and L4 before moving to H. Coming full circle, I suppose.

L3 is the long time VX gate so taking L1 is a good way to consolidate.

I bet that AA is happy to get access to AS' H gate.

Yes, back when AS used an L gate AND when there was a DL lounge across from it. That's the AA lounge now, it seems. Convenient.

This is a good change - L1 has been under a bit of renovation recently and it brings AS all together. This should also give AS more flexibility for arriving flights with the gate occupied instead of having staff need to run between two concourses.

I believe the large food court is nearby as well.

Quite a bit of construction to finish at L1 before this happens!

Yep. Full circle. Have to say that I've come to enjoy the AA club on the left just after TSA. It's small, but quiet. No views really, but so peaceful.

This has now taken place, with Airbus flights generally departing from L1 and Boeing from L3.

More notably, this change has brought and end to AA doing most of the ramp work for the Boeing flights. It’s all Menzies now, just as VX has been for a long time.

Last week at H4

Now at L3

We had a strange arrival at L3 this morning - I guess AS20 was the first to actually arrive at this gate. We came in and stopped but were too far away from the gate so we had to get the tug to pull us forward. The pilot mentioned that they hadn't yet painted the new markers for our plane type. I'm kind of confused by that because we waited a few minutes for another AS jet (AS27?) to leave our gate. So...that means it was towed in the night before?

The recent move over to Terminal 2 (G4 and G6) is obviously short-term; Terminal 2 is slated for demolition in 2021. I expect AS will be relocated again at that time, to Terminal 5, which is currently undergoing gate expansion. The ORD master plan calls for airlines with little to no connecting traffic to be marooned permanently over at T5; this means DL, principally, but also F9 (already there), Spirit, and presumably AS.
