Am i doing something wrong..? I tried to create accounts for my twins (almost 9) and apparently Alaska doesn't allow this...

I created accounts for my kids ( 3 and 6) by calling MileagePlan at 800-654-5669.

Both my kids have accounts. A possibly unpublished benefit to be aware of, they will waive the usage requirements for minors as well, meaning if your kids go more than 2 years without flying they will reinstate the account for another 2 years without fee. Although we don't pay for travel for my kids that often (lots of mileage tix) I hope that each of them will have a nice fat account when they turn 18 to use for some for some fun travel...

You have to call in and they’ll set up the account by phone.

Children must be 13 or over to create a alaskaair.com profile. Any age under that can be done over the phone to create just a Mileage Plan account.

But once you create an account over the phone, you can manage it through the web site. I have the username and password for my young child's account; works just like managing any other account.

Agreed. And to the OP, make sure you ask the agent that sets up the account to also set up a username and password for you. They don’t do it unless specifically asked to. And you can’t login online without it.

For context, this is how Alaska complies with COPPA (the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule).

Thanks for this. I had no idea this was possible. I've been wondering how to actually view the mileage balance for my two kids.

I've had a Mileage Plan account since I was two, so it definitely can be done...

I have 3 Grandkids, ages 4 to 7 and they all have MP accounts. I have told them they need to surpass my miles total someday. 1.2MM at this point.

I think there is still a 75K that is barely over lap child age.

My sister's kid was MVP Gold at 10 years old and would get FC upgrades (felt sorry for his seatmates). All my kids had accounts by 2 years old.
