Transfer NRT with separate tickets and carry on

Hi,

I am trying to find an F ticket from HGK to LAX using Alaska miles. I have found an F ticket on JAL from NRT to LAX leaving at 1725, but there is no availability in any class between HKG and NRT. As such, I am looking at purchasing a revenue ticket on Hong Kong Express arriving at 1410. This leave three hours to transfer but I will need to go through immigration and customs, then check-in again.

Does anyone know if it's possible that if I just had carry on luggage and checked in online for my JAL F flight, can I just transfer without clearing immigration (i.e. just stay airside)?

Cheers for any help.

Scott

This has zero to do with AS. But I am confident that this question has been asked (and answered) previously in the Japan forum.

No customs/immigration. You're transiting through Japan. You will have to go through security again.

You should be fine, not necessary to go through immigration as both HK Express and JAL operate in Terminal 2.
