Route: LAX-ANC
Flight Number: 193
Status: MVP Gold75K
Fare Class: R
Cleared: 24 hours out
Some weird things happened with this reservation that I may post on another thread. For this flight I got the notice of the upgrade but was unable to go online (main website or app) and select a seat. I called and they could not help either. At the airport I got my BP on VX 1337 connecting to AS193. The VX BP printed out just fine but it took the agent at the counter almost 30 minutes and the help of several other people before they could finally print out the LAX-ANC BP. It had "Flight Coupon Required" printed on it which the agent highlighted with a yellow marker. I had not seen that statement since AS went to electronic upgrades years ago. At LAX I tried to get a new BP without the statement on it. The one they printed out had the same statement on it. The Agent finally said "I am glad you came to me now (90 minutes before the flight and no one else in line). Don't worry about it. I will be here and clear you through". He was true to his word and no problem boarding. Just strange to see this after all these years.

1/16/18 SFO-SEA AS 391 75K+Companion Upgrade cleared at T-115*
1/16/18 SEA-ANC AS 95 75K+Companion Upgrade cleared at T-119*
I was at home so I monitored the first flight at T-120 mark. Nothing happened. Checked it an hour later. No upgrade. Hour after that, nada. F space
Figured I'd wait until the second flight should clear. It didn't. F space had disappeared on AS391, but U was still there. Ok, time to call AS, as it's U3 on each flight. Agent saw U and my status was indicated on the reservation, but was hesitant to clear. Mentioned U was already disappearing on the flights and limited U left. Agent said the'd upgrade "this time" and was able to select a pair of seats in row 2. ^
Only thing I can think of that tweaked the upgrade processor out was a VX segment the day before, LAX-SFO. But it worked out this time ^

I wish more were hesitant and did not allow people to jump the list. I had this happen last year and I ended up clearing. its not clearing all seats at one but one or 2 at a time over several hours.

I sent a note in. Hopefully they'll take note of it and prevent it from happening again.

Didn't think we were going to get the upgrade on the return, as it didn't come through until we were already at the gate. We were next to last to get upgraded, as after boarding one more person got an upgrade and was brought up to first class from his seat in economy (was on one of the -900s that hasn't yet gone through its cabin overhaul.)

1/16/18 PDX-OAK AS914 MVPG 12/30 on waitlist
I've been about ~40% on PDX-OAK upgrades since it went 737 (obviously more successful when it's a 900 vs 700/800). I either upgrade 2-3 days out or not at all. Zero upgrades at T-24 or under.

1/16 PHX-SEA 645a departure: UG @ 120 hr.
1/16 SEA-YYC 1005a departure: UG @ 120 hr. For some reason the system didn't assign me a seat until I checked in, so I missed out on a window for the spectacular view coming into Calgary.

1/20 IAD-SFO 935a departure: UG @ gate, after request (MVPG)
I called cust service 14 hours out about an upgrade and after 40 minutes on hold, they said there is something wrong with the system, gave me 5000 miles for the trouble, but no upgrade. In the past, with MVPG, I’ve always been able to select open MCS seats 24 hours out.
When I reached the gate, I asked about available MCS (premium) seat upgrades. The agent immediately placed me in one of several open MCS seats. The agent said the Alaska-Virgin upgrade system is currently broken and the only way to get premium seats is to request them at the gate.
Anyone else having this problem?

As an MVP, I too get ZERO upgrades at T-24 or under with the odd exception of the times I'm flying with a non-status companion (ie, my kid)....twice last year my kid and I got the upgrade at around T-22 or less...I have noticed that on my flight reservations for 2018, if I'm traveling with a companion on the same reservation it now says "First Class Waitlisted" for both us so hopefully this trend continues
