In the first video, look carefully. You’ll notice four rows of First Class seats. The A320s (and eventually the A319s) only have three rows. In the second video, that is of an A320 (N628VA). The first video has footage of N928VA, the A321neo with the new interior. Again, not much for the latter.
yes, you’re right! My bad!

Having a very small fleet of aircraft with five first class rows would be a disaster waiting to happen. There would be endless complaints whenever there is a plane swap.

true, although I think one could argue the -900 fleet could easily pull off 20 as well in line with United and Delta.

Generally legacy VX painted birds were in for heavy maintenance. I generally feel most AS painted airbuses now going in will be for cabin mods and maintenance. The problem is VX deferred everything once the merger was announced so the airbuses are in for some TLC in general (cant come too soon as i flew N633VA this week....the cabins are very worn and needing some refurbishment).

N628VA went in as a VX painted bird, left with the new configuration, and stopped at VCV on the way back for a new coat of paint. I believe it is being done with HMV, but can't tell yet based off of the three examples we've seen. If I were to guess, I'd say the 321's would be the first to get the mods (increased seat count), then the N6XXVA birds going into maintenance, the N8 & 2 & 3XXVA ones, and finally the 319's. The different cabin configs might impact this (146pax vs 149pax), but it makes sense to do it fleet type at a time and start with the ones which will increase in seat count significantly.

Ditto. Heck, even the F seats on those birds still work! The 321s are the best frames in the fleet.

I really held out hope that AS might use the A321s as a dedicated premium transcon fleet for routes like lax/sfo-dca and lax/sfo-jfk. The F and Y seats on the VX A321NEO are my favorite of any AS aircraft. But every indication from AS publicly has been that they want one consistent product fleet-wide. I just think as an airline grows, the one size fits all model runs into hurdles when you have very different types of routes with very different customer profiles.

Alaska doesn't need to chase the SFO/LAX/SEA to NYC/DC routes with a differentiated product any more than any other route.

Per the AS Email sent out today - as we already figured; the completion of the airbus retrofits are now scheduled to be complete by "early 2020". Whether that is January, April or June - not sure exactly. But given the pace so far; i think it will be mid to late 2020 before all are complete. At least we are almost done the repainting of the aircraft....
