The cabin mods arenít cheap, and my thinking is until 100% solidify their fleet plans, they are taking there time. I think the slow retrofit pace could be indicative of AS returning to a mostly 737 fleet in the nearish future. Especially at the likely low price Boeing would be willing to sell them under the current environment. I wouldnít be too surprised if we see a large Alaska order for the MAX before years end, coupled with an announcement that the a319s and some a320s will have their return date accelerated and that they wonít be refurbished after all. Donít be surprised if we never see a refurbished A319 if that is the case. (Purely speculation)
This would make sense except the L-VX aircraft that are being retrofitted right now have the least (at least of the 320s) time left on their leases. The current retrofit is for the early introduced N6xxVA 320s. If the Airbus was going away quickly, N3xxVA and N2xxVA would be the ones reconfigured first since they are the newest (longer left on the lease, more expensive to break contracts for) and are equipped with the fuel saving sharklets. I would expect a MAX order that coincides with the 320 and 319 lease ends, but with the MAX grounding (slash PR nightmare) and superior performance of the 321NEO, it would not surprise me if some of the L-VX 320NEOs were converted to 321NEOs and a small fleet of Airbii stayed with AS until Boeing can ship their MoM aircraft.

Then again this is the only carrier flying SFO/LAX-NYC with recliners up front and charging more than the flat bed carriers because "flat beds don't make money". Entirely possible the executive team says screw the economics, we're a seattle carrier we will fly seattle made planes no matter the public perception.

930 flew what I assumed would be a customer acceptance flight today, but instead of the usual circuit to and from XFW, it landed in Dresden, where it remains. Not sure what the heck is going on.

Logically thinking this MAX debacle is a lesson why you should have a mix brand fleet. Negotiations must be terrible when your whole fleet is from one company. Boeing had Alaska by the ice cubes !

While Iíd imagine the select A321neos with the newer VX first class seats likely do not have this problem, itís not likely Iíll be on one. My flights to Vegas will be on an A319 and A320 in economy, so Iíll have the chance to see what VX economy is like.
I have a flight coming up next week SEA CMH and am in 6B, (only 5 seats left, and it is either stay in 6B or move to 17B, no FC for sale) I definitely do not prefer the airbus series planes over the 737. Granted, I mostly fly either in FC or PE, but I have flown in the plain economy and found them to feel much more crowded. Just my perception though. I just wish there were more PE seats on these planes, I actually find myself looking for 737 or E175s when selecting flights lately.

Yesterday I flew AS1146 SEA-AUS on an A320 with the Virgin America first class seats. Glad to have the opportunity to enjoy these seats before they are phased out.

Cabin and seats were clean. The PTVs worked and had clear screen. Nice to have extra recline (good for napping) and a legrest. Couple issues: my seat was showing wear on the armrest and one of the buttons didn't work.

They're definitely more comfortable than the Boeing F seats, and the cupholders are a nice addition, but the new configuration is so bland in my opinion. Will miss the (well maintained, at least) big white recliners. Enjoy!
