Saw this today - what's the significance of a 7xxx flight number, if anyone knows?

No, this is either the 737-400 or the new 737-700 all freighter aircraft. https://www.alaskaair.com/content/ca...reighters.aspx

Apparently the '400 freighter is sticking around longer too until at least January 2018...

737-400 combis are used for freight only flights with some frequency. Whenever 709 was out for a heavy check they had to use combis for the freight flights, but sometimes they just need extra lift on certain routes and one dedicated freight aircraft isn't enough.
