due to CX data point,
do u think if i book a low booking class of 50% on AY, it does say 500 minimum.
would the minimum be 250 or 500? (it will be in Dec and i wont have time to make it up if it is 250).

Sorry to dig up such an old post but it seems to be the only one on point. Does anyone know if any of Alaska's partners still provide a 500 mile EQM guarantee on shorter flights? The (old) language cited above about the 500 mile EQM guarantee is no longer, only the 10,000 mile redeemable minimum on international flights. I'm concerned primarily about a few short flights within Brazil on LA in W class last month. Thanks.

If you click on details below the Latam Charts, eligible flight numbers are listed and at the bottom you will see:
Earn 500 minimum miles on flights shorter than 500 miles. No miles will be earned for classes of service not listed above.

Thanks! All this time I thought the "Details" were just the partner phone number right underneath! I can't believe all this time that I could click on Details! It was hidden in plain sight all this time...

Wondering about a scenario here.
It seems like the terms specifically say you earn minimum 500 miles on flights shorter than 500 miles.
From the mileage chart - https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...rican-airlines
I'm looking at American Airlines SFO-PHX in O class, which according to the chart is 25% of miles flown for elite qualifying miles. This flight is 650 miles, which is a flight longer than 500 miles. Does that mean I earn only 163 elite qualifying miles?
If I do SFO-LAX in O class, which is 337 miles, then I earn 500 elite qualifying miles?
Meaning, I earn more miles flying a shorter flight?

Mileage earned is based on a percentage of actual flight miles flown and earn 500 minimum miles on flights shorter than 500 miles. No miles will be earned for classes of service not listed above.

I flew BA LHR-DUB in February 2020. It's 280 miles, but I flew in a 50% fare class. I earned 500 EQM and 1125 RDM for each segment. The RDM posted as 140 plus bonuses. The EQM don't show their calculations but my YTD updated as if I earned 500.
Wish I had something more recent or relevant to share with you. Good luck.

The confusion for me is whether flights OVER 500 miles but class of service would put the EQM under 500 would count as 500 or not. Since the wording on the website makes it seem like only flights under 500 miles would earn the minimum 500.

AA does have a 500 EQM minimum so any non BE fare (booked in B class) will earn the minimum. In the case of O & Q fares where earnings are 25% of flight distance, any calculation that results in a number less than 500 will be rounded up to 500.
A flight of 163 miles earns 500 EQM
A flight of 900 miles earns 500 EQM
A flight of 2000 miles earn 500 EQM
A flight over 2000 miles will earn 500 EQM + 1 additional EQM for each 4 miles flown. (25%)
LAX-MIA is 2342 miles (3 miles shorter than LAX-ANC), in O class that will earn 586 EQM. 85˝ returns for 100K. 😉
I will check the prices of specific fare classes to see if an upfare to a higher EQM earning fare class is warranted, usually it isnt. The EQM cpm cost is always a factor for me.
If we look at the $99 LAX-MIA fares through mid December, they book into N class; 50% EQM. On the non-stop you won't find an O or Q fare but if it is part of a connection it can combine into a multi-segment and all book into O.
N & S earn 50% EQM, G & V earn 75% EQM. The price jumps to $149 from N class to G class. Essentially a 50% up-fare is required to earn 25% more EQM. Not a good deal, usually! There may be some merit if you are close to qualification or time constrained. Very much a YMMV. H class is the lowest Main fare class to earn 100% EQM. The price jumps to $549, 550% more $ for 50% more EQM.
It is a numbers game. 😉
My October 1st AA LAX-PHX flight, 370 miles, was booked into N class, 50% EQM. It posted today, 185 base EQM, bonus 940, total RDM 1125. The 940 bonus includes 315 miles to top up to 500 minimum and is both EQM & RDM and 625 RDM, 75K Elite Bonus 500 × 1.25.
For your 650 O class flight it will post as
RDM 500/750/1000/1125 based on Elite Status
Base round(650×25%) = round(162.5) = 163
Bonus 337/587/837/962 based on Elite status.
