Random routes out of DAL? You mean like AUS-DAL, which failed miserably for VX?
I don't see how using a gate-limited resource like DAL to start random East Coast routes when SFO and LAX are way behind SEA in destinations makes much sense. That was VX's deal, picking cities like YYZ and flopping miserably.
If anything I would expect to see SFO/LAX-DFW added back to allow AS to sell some AA codeshares.

I have no idea how the piloting business works, but the articles in the Seattle Times talking about the shortage have specifically been about pilots for the Q400 turboprops. Is it easier to get pilots for 737s? (Note that easier may also mean more expensive, but that's a different sort of problem.)

Alaska will have their own problems if you believe some pilots since their pay scales are low compared to the other major carriers.
To answer your question directly, there won't necessarily be a shortage of 737 (or mainline) pilots. Most airlines recruit heavily from the military and corporate fields, as well as through regionals. That being said, I don't think Alaska has the fleet to start 30+ markets, nor are planes for 30+ markets all going to magically show up in six months. Unless they take the slack out of the Virgin fleet, I find 30 markets in six months a little far fetched.

Skywest (OO) announced yesterday in their earnings report that they will fly 55 additional E175s (not previously announced) beginning in 2018. No word on what markets they will serve or where they will be based.
Not announced, but known inside OO is up to 8 CRJ700s coming out of the desert to sub for Horizon through December at least. Quite likely that these will remain in service indefinitely. Most are already painted in AS colors - they were retired when the E175s were initially introduced for AS.

GEG-LAX please, especially now that the Delta partnership has ended.

More importantly - for whom? OO provides service for the big US3, as well as Alaska. One might assume AS due to E175s, but that may not be the case.
