That has nothing to do with codesharing. Awards are booked using the AA flight number, not an AS codeshare.

It has to do with this...

I live in Austin. American Airlines offers 11 peak daily departures on the 190 mile flight from Austin to Dallas. Between June 4 and the end of schedule in mid-March, 2018 there is not a single flight where there’s even one premium cabin saver award seat available. That’s over 3000 flights.

AS access to AA award inventory isn't any better than AA SAAver, so we have the same problem booking AA flights AAdvantage members do (and we can't even resort to the inflated awards on AA.com). I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to book an AA award with AS miles fairly recently, including the domestic segment. It's really tough. You basically have to wait for AA to open the floodgates and be able to book in a short window, and hope it works for you.

It seems very hard to find domestic awards lately, but the 20,000 mile transatlantic awards seem more abundant than ever before.

yes i booked some AA flights using my AS miles earlier this year and the AA award availability at that time seemed to be significantly better. thanks for the links!
