This year I requalified for MVPG in May and did a 15.5K mini holiday/mileage run; YLW-SEA-ANC-LAX-SJO-LAX-SEA-SFO-PVR-LAX-SEA-YLW in October to get MVPG75K for the first time. I don't fly for business so what I do is Flying For Fun.

Re-qualified for MVP Gold a few months ago, will hit MVPG75K with a few flights this month...big one is BKK-HKG-DFW-RDU on CX/AA in J next week. That'll put me about 1,500 miles shy of 75k, but a quick trip to Vegas from ILM the next week will get me over the line. Wasn't going to go for it as there isn't a huge difference between Gold and Gold75k to me, but the 50,000 bonus miles for hitting 75K, I remembered, are worth about $1,700 to me (I live in Bangkok and J flights on JAL to Japan from here are only 50,000 miles round trip...most tickets go for $1,675). Been debating jumping to AA or BA for status next year (I have several J and F bookings to Europe and North America next year already) or doing a status match with UA and flying them and Star partners moving forward, but there's no question the that best program for collecting redeemable miles in Mileage Plan!

I cannot believe it,

I am going to end 2017 with 89,913 partner miles. Granted Im waiting on a DXB JFK on EK, and MIA SCL MIA to post from LATAM. But if they post the way I believe they will Im going to be within spitting distance of 75k.

Dont really want to spend $100-200 just for that tiny bit. Has anyone heard of Alaska making exceptions <100 miles? .. probably ymmv.. ugh

Don't you get 50k bonus miles just for hitting top tier? That would seem to call for a cheap flight, assuming you have one available to you.

yes of course. but Ive spent quite a bit mileage running up to this point already to reach what I thought was 75k.

I just cancelled a short Avios award and booked on Alaska to put me over the finish line. Would never forgive myself if I came this far to fail Lol

My mum was given 75k when she was a few thousand miles short, they didn't give her the 50k bonus miles, but everything else was given, so it could happen. Then again she's been 75k for ~10 years or so.

My segment ticker just clicked past the 90 segment threshold and I'm MVPG75K for 2018! I'll be close to the 75,000 mile threshold too, but flying out of RDM makes it a little easier on the segment side. It's a bit of a pain to have to hop over to PDX/SEA for every trip, but worth it to live in Bend :-)

Current Stats:
65,000 AS miles
68,000 AS/Partner miles
91 AS/Partner segments

I still have 4 trips planned through the end of the year, so I might hit 75,000 AS miles also.

Just received an e-mail entitled "An update to your Mileage Plan™ account" -- I thought that was an odd way of just sending out a statement, but I noticed it said:

MVP Gold 75K status in 2017 [OK I knew that...]
You've reached MVP Gold 75K status for 2018 [Wait? what?]

Alaska miles 74,817 miles traveled
Alaska + partners 86,074 miles traveled
Segments flown 35 segments traveled

I already have a trip planned next week, so it's not a big deal, but thought it was weird they put me over the line with 183 miles left to go...
(Haven't received the 50K or GGU passes yet....)

Just had my last flights credited to put me over the MVP Gold 75K threshold!

I've still never flown AS in my life but I'm sure they are great!

I'm sure Hainan will be part of my requal plan for 2019. I spent a lot of mine on the red headed stepchild VX.

I just passed the re-qual for MVP Gold this past week. The last few years with AS has been great but based on the partner changes and my flying patterns I will not be able to re-qual next year. I hope to see AS expand into the mid-west/MSP market with more flights as I think they have a great product and service.

Crazy amount of segments!
I got to 75K about half way through the year on partner miles only.

As much as I enjoyed 2017, I logged 114 nights at hotels and what to me seemed a lot of flying too, but only 36 segments, earning about 450k award miles total. Was fun, but honestly, I am getting too old for that ..... Looking forward to spending fewer nights at hotels in 2018.
