AS position to crack down on EFs?

Here's an interesting job posting I came across:

http://alaskaair.jobs/seattle-wa/rev...C6CD7653F/job/

Looks like AS is working to spin up a Revenue Protection team. One can only imagine all the things they'll be looking for: EFs, nested ticketing, hidden city…

Sounds more like credit card fraud kind of things.

This thread seems more appropriate for the Alaska than Mileage Run forum, so please continue the discussion there.

Oh noes, people might not be able to churn the AS BofA 1784849 times a year...

Sure, today, but the posting also says the person will be responsible for "Establishment of the Revenue Protection Team" and should have GDS experience. So I think it's a bit more than just handling chargebacks, etc.

I've always wondered if it might be possible to somehow tag those credit card sign-up bonus miles so that they might be redeemed only on Alaska Airlines flights. I suspect Alaska's airline partners might be a lot happier if this were so.

Why does everyone assume the churners are getting away with something or duping Mileage Plan? I'm pretty sure there's been plenty of cost/benefit analysis done by AAG/MP, and that it's a net positive. My guess is that Bank of America pays more per mile awarded in credit card signups than Alaska pays their partners for redemption purposes. Perhaps that's why it continues - much to the chagrin of those of us who earn a good part of our rdms by flying?

Could simply be the case that with scale (AS+VX) and corresponding staff consolidation, there are now sufficient resources to justify such a position.

Expert Flyer is using "public" AVS - availability messages- sent to the GDS world. Nothing secret about this.

Likely. It is probably just scattered about now, or a subset of another department. It isn't as if it AS doesn't take action against fraudsters. Lots of CC fraud with airline ticket purchasing, worldwide, in addition to the common "FT" suspects, such as bartering, selling, and other Mileage Plan-related fraud.

If the ultimate goal is revenue protection, then technically exploring the fare basis and route limitations is not a part of revenue protection. Fraudulent activities, however, are.
