Qantas routes Australia to/from USA Canada
Looking for awards only on LAX-SYD route restricts your options.
AS award chart:---> https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...s/award-charts

Note these routes and/or aircraft type may change. Not all routes have flights every day.
May not be up to date
BNE-LAX B330
MEL-DFW B787
MEL-LAX B787 (was the first A380 route for Qantas on 21 October 2008)
MEL-DFW B787
SYD-DFW B787 A380
SYD-HNL
SYD-AKL-JFK B787 (from June 2023)
SYD-LAX A380 B787
SYD-SFO
SYD-YVR
General
The QF A380 have first, business, premium economy & economy classes. Only the A380 has first class.
The QF B787's have, business, premium economy & economy classes. The B787s do not have first class.
All QF B747's have been retired and sent to the Mojave desert. (July 2020)

QF starts to release their awards 353 days out to QF frequent flyers. But awards can be released any time out to departure. Anyone can join the QF ffp and then search for award availability. Be careful about mixed economy/business QF awards. These have an identifying symbol on the award flight.

A business class flight will give access to the Qantas Club or Qantas Business lounge. Major domestic airports have both a Qantas Club lounge, for mid level Oneworld status holders and paid QF club members, and a better Business lounge, with access by business class of service or top level Oneworld status. Domestic lounges can get very busy at morning and late afternoon peaks.

From QF web site QF seat maps

Qantas Australia domestic
Award availability on QF domestic routes in both business & economy is usually OK. Can be harder on longer routes (say 3~ 4 hour flights).

The workhorse of QF Mainline domestic fleet is the B737-800. QF have 75 of these in a 12J162Y configuration. Some schedules have a A330, some of which have international style business seats. These 2 aircraft types are also used on trans Tasman routes (Australia to New Zealand).

The QantasLink brand is used on regional routes to smaller cities and towns. The aircraft used are Dash 8's (de Havilland Canada DHC-8-200, Bombardier Dash 8 Q300 & Q400) in all an Y configuration, Foker 100 in all 105Y configuration and B717's in 12JY98 or 125Y configuration.

How long does it typically take Qantas to "confirm" a booking? I found some award space, booked it... Still hasn't given me a confirmation email a week later. I'd like to start making plans.

I did twice so far, Gold line says these partner requests are put in a bucket, then QF confirms them.

That's possible, I suppose, but contrary to my experience as well. I've booked many Qantas awards, including four in the past month, and all immediately confirmed.

Seeing Qantas Space LAX-MEL on both Alaska and Qantas, but it's not going through. Is it worth my while ringing up, or is it phantom space?

Check it on BA, QF, or Expert Flyer. Likely phantom.

Trying to book DFW-SYD in First Class. Shows available on AS & QF, but it won't confirm. ExpertFlyer & BA aren't showing any availability. Tried it for 4 dates in July 2018

Unfortunately that's likely to be phantom availability if it doesn't show up on BA.

I'm having the exact opposite problem. Routes like SYD-LAX and MEL-LAX are showing practically wide open availability in F for dates in Nov, according to BA. But AS can't see a single seat. What on earth is going on with QF availability booked through AS?

I'm having the same problem! Trying to book a SYD > LAX flight and it'll show available on BA, but won't let me see anything on AS's website!

In late December I saw an F award DFW-SYD for 3rd week of August and grabbed it, confirmed in < 5 mins and chose my seat. Not sure if I will use it but given that everyone seems to have issues booking I wanted to see for myself. Likely to cancel. My partner and I are on our last few legs of an 8-week around the world vacation that started January 1st. First and Business all on award tickets. Luckily, I never seem to have issues with my award bookings. Even EK J2, SFO-DXB/26 days/DXB-JNB went through without a hitch. CX J2 JNB-HKG/4 days/HKG-BOS was booked 4 months out and 1 upgraded to F @ T-11 days for 7,500 miles and $3.85 difference in fees/taxes.

Same issue for LAX-SYD now. Qantas, BA and ExpertFlyer is showing availability in First (P1). AS doesn't show it online and trying to book it via phone didn't work either.
