I think I was on a weird flight. When I cleared that far out, there were still 6 F seats available for selection.

12/24/17 AS 862 OGG-PDX K class. Checked our flights incessantly after purchase until one random weekend there were 2 U seats available with my gold guest upgrade coupons, so snagged them!! SCORE!!!! This flight will (re) qualify me for MVG and him for MVP.
Nice score. I am on OGG-PDX 12/26. Full Y fare. Purchased about 3 months ago. Still in coach. Check 4-5 Times a day and no U space with 4 seats available.

AS 3356
PDX-ONT
MVP (+companion)
Upgraded around T-23

Kinda surprised to get auto-upgraded on this flight since I was flying with my non-status son on the same reservation and I thought MVPs weren't eligible for companion upgrades. We both got auto-upgraded and I received the email confirmation about T-23. This is the second time this year I've been upgraded with a non-status companion on my reservation

it is impossible to put in an upgrade cert (i.e., GGU) on the waitlist unless something has changed. you can only apply a GGU if U space is open and the upgrade can be immediately confirmed.

without knowing the details of your status and reservation as well as the others it is impossible to say how 3 others were upgraded. if the process worked as it should, those folks had higher status than you and also had Y fares. if you have 75K status, they purchased before you and also had Y fares and 75K status. however, the process is known to have some flaws.

2739 PDX> TUS Dec 22
2772 TUS> PDX Dec 27
Purchased Dec 4
Fare class U
MVPG
Upgraded to 1st both flights Dec 16.

Very surprised to be upgraded for the flight on the 27th 11 days prior. Upon Checking availability after being upgraded, every seat in 1st except mine remained unsold. This is on an E75. I guess they figured they wouldn't sell 11 seats in next 10 days.

What was your original booking class? If you purchased an immediately upgradeable fare originally and there was no U seats in the bucket your upgrade would process as soon as U opened up. Perhaps the main cabin was filling up and they opened U so they would have more Y to sell. If the seat map is showing 11 seats, some may be sold but unassigned which can happen when others are upgraded but have yet to select their seat or a First seat is sold but no seat is selected (does happen, assigned at check-in) To truly see what is available, you can either do a dummy booking on the same flight or use a program such as Expert Flyer which will show availability for all buckets.

Happy you were upgraded, enjoy Tucson, Merry Christmas. I will be at my vacation home in PHX in February. Already used a companion fare and both immediately upgraded BOS-SEA-PHX, PHX-SEA-YLW.

PS Flight AS2772 12/27 currently showing:

F5 D5 P4 U4 A0 Y7 Z7 S4 B4 M3 H3
L V K G T R N W E all at 0

Looks like a light flight, surprised they haven't opened up any F saver awards (A0)

I feel like the upgrades on E175 flights don't seem to always follow the "typical" upgrade process so this doesn't surprise me....as an MVP on a reservation with a non-status companion, I've been upgraded twice this year and both were E175 flights....under "normal" upgrade situations, MVPs with a non-status companion would be skipped over for upgrades since they are not eligible for upgrades in these cases. My wife, also an MVP, was traveling with a non-status companion a week ago and got auto-upgraded on an E175 flight too.
