I'm shocked I even saw F space award. Maybe JFK just never has F (*EDIT* guess i lied just saw some F from JFK close in)

I wouldn't have even known F existed if it were't for this post (since i had to look):

This was a response in Post #12, to someone who booked J seats flying into Tokyo and out of Osaka.

Can you explain why these seats in J are less desirable? Is it the type of aircraft or the way JL configures them?

not lieflat J, angled-flat

i believe ex-YVR uses this version of J

the better routes use sky suites aka lieflat (all seats have aisle access - hard to get out of middle/window seat if you're wider than normal)

Thanks. What are the gateway cities on the West Coast for flying to either Osaka or Tokyo? We don't mind traveling down to SFO, LAX, or other city if they offer better flight choices than YVR.

SAN, LAX, YVR to NRT

Anyone else noticing that Mainland China is pricing as SE Asia?

I was trying to put together a better list of Asian destinations but only the following are supposed to qualify as SE Asia

Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, and Cambodia

Thanks! And which of those routes offer the better J product?

SFO and LAX are easiest for us as we have family to stay with if we want to stay overnight before the long-haul flight ( which we do by booking that segment separately so we don't get caught up in stopover restrictions).

The routes with the updated j are SFO to HND or DFW/LAX/ord to NRT. There are also flights out of Boston and New York with the updated j.

One thing to note for JAL is they tend to open up a ton of availability close in. You can always find some route if you're willing to book only two weeks before departure.

Has anyone tried doing a NRT//HND connection? I'm aiming for SIN-HND//NRT-YVR as there's no availability on SIN-NRT.

This is FlyerTalk, the answer to "has anyone done X" is probably "yes", even if it's crazy.

I'd want at least 4 hours for something like that, even though this is not the craziest you could get with coterminals (I've done SFO-OAK as a coterminal myself on award, which is easier than what you propose BY FAR, straight shot on BART across the Bay). The time I flew into NRT and out of HND was on a stopover (so I spent a couple of days in Tokyo).

This is more like EWR->JFK (through a huge metropolis with potential for traffic) than SFO->OAK or even JFK->LGA. It can be done but oof.

Take advantage of the tokyo stop-over

Search for SIN-HND and NRT-YVR separately on a one way search.

Then Multi City search using the dates found

SIN-HND
NRT-YVR

I should probably rephrase my question: has anyone booked such a connection with JL using AS miles?

PE being priced as Business Class

Hi All,

I've been trying to book tickets for a JFK-NRT/HND for travel in September/October and Alaska is only showing Economy and Business tickets available. The Business Class tickets show as Mixed cabin, even though it is a direct flight, and the actual cabin priced out is Premium Economy. I've seen some other people in this post have experienced this problem. Has anyone been able to find a work around? Does calling the Alaska Partner Desk help at all?

Thanks,
Jason

Call them and report back. (I have not found getting a human on the phone at Alaska Airlines to be much of a task.)
