Agree. Although I believe you posted this in the wrong forum. This is Alaska forum about using Alaska miles for JAL awards.

Maybe OP has figured out a way to use AS miles to redeem on *A.

I was merely responding specifically to a member who was hoping to enjoy the LAX OW lounge - wishing all the best!

Apologies if this is elsewhere in this thread, but can I book SEA-KOA-NRT-BKK on a single award redemption ? Would it fall under North America to Asia?

No AS doesn't allow connection in Hawaii when going to Asia. They do allow Start in Hawaii and fly to mainland to fly to Asia, go figure.

It prevents a free stopover for a Hawaiian vacation enroute to Asia.

Though why NA-Hawaii(stop)-Asia is verboten while Hawaii-NA(stop)-Asia is OK doesn't make a lot of sense, since you can basically do:

Home-Hawaii (trip 1)
Hawaii-NA Home(trip 2, stopover)
Home-Asia (trip 2)
Asia-NA Home (trip 3, stopover)
NA Home-Hawaii (trip 3)

Oh, look, you got a free round trip to Hawaii embedded in those other two trips. But an actual en-route stopover in the middle of the Pacific instead of a backtrack? Pass the smelling salts!

(PS: never change, AS. )

Shall I qualify my statement further by saying no Hawaiian vacation on a one-way award to Asia? In your scenario, you need to get to Hawaii to start your award and end up in Hawaii with a need to get back home. Living in an AS hub makes it possible, living in YLW (Still NA) doesn't. I do appreciate that AS partner awards include flights to/from the gateway unlike AA that requires a second award to get from/to Canada.

James

(I totally agree! Don't change AS )

Any idea what is the maximum number of awards (business ) which AS is allocated for each JL flight? Maximum you can search for 7 seats. So does that mean 7 ?

JAL does not even release 7 J seats to their own program, I think the maximum is four seats for JMB members.

AS does not get a separate allocation from other partners as far as I am aware. JAL can have a different allocation for its own program but all partners seem to get the same allocation (subject to POS restrictions which can lead to less showing for AS). Partner allocation at schedule open for US flights is typically 2F and 2J (used to be 4J) and as you might expect these can go quickly and since JAL loads these seats at 360 days out now and AS cannot book them until 330 (ish) days out a lot of that early allotment is taken by other programs. JAL may or may not release more seats later depending on loads. Usually they do release more but you need to monitor carefully for them because others may be looking to book them too. I have not tracked economy seats but there should be more of those released.

7 is just an AS website limitation not a JAL limit. In theory JAL could release more than 7 seats at a time. Not likely for premium cabins but maybe for economy. And, if they did, AS would be able to book a max of 7 and a time on the website (maybe more by calling in?) but once the 7 were booked you could book more in a second booking, up to the amount JAL released.

I am trying to look for JL723 from NRT to KUL on Apr 19 for J. Can see on QF and CX available but for AS its always Coach only. I wonder why. Not entirely on JL, but I am also open to try for CX using AS miles. Is Intra Asia with transit say TYO-HKG-SIN not a legal route under AS rules for CX without a stopover? There was once I saw an opening in CX side, but I called AS they said dont have. Now its gone.

AS doesn't always have the same availability in real time as its partners, unfortunately.

The April 19th NRT-KUL flight in J on JL is not available when using a US Point of Sale (POS) and that is what Alaska uses to issue tickets which is why you cannot find availability through AS. I have found a workaround for you though. Search for and book online DEL-KUL on April 18. AS will find a JL itinerary that includes DEL-NRT on April 18 connecting to NRT-KUL (in J) on April 19 (the flight you want). Then call in within 24 hours for a free change to drop the DEL-NRT segment and you end up with NRT-KUL in J on April 19. BOOM! You want to call AS during the day when their regular partner agents are working to drop the DEL-NRT segment. Calling in the middle of the night you might not get a knowledgeable enough agent.
