E-cigarette batteries ignite, delaying 67

From KCAW (Sitka Public Radio) web page:

Alaska Air flight grounded after e-cig batteries ingnite

Passengers on an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to Anchorage on Sunday (10-30-16) were delayed over 5 hours after a passenger’s backpack started burning. Batteries for an e-cigarette are the likely culprit.

Flight 67 had just made a scheduled stop in Ketchikan at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, and about half the passengers had deplaned, when the incident occurred.

To be sure, they're certainly not the new Blackberry!

This is another reason why this fad should be discouraged.

E-cig batteries catching fire is not a new thing. I'm surprised their hasn't been a crack down on them.

My husband's battery went POOF! while he had his in his mouth (!) and I have a friend who had a hole burned in his carpet from a smoking battery.

I'm not at all surprised.

This new phenomenon of electronics spontaneously combusting seems to have one common denominator.....the battery. Perhaps battleries are being made too cheap these days

What I understand happened is that the battery(ies) came in contact with the pax's keys and that was the initiating event. For what it's worth.
