Economy class: 100%;
First class: 175% or 100%?

The only way to get 1M is to fly 1M miles. Bonus miles don't count.

Basically: get on a plane, fly. Repeat until complete. It's pretty simple.

Well they do count a flight as minimum of 500 miles, so you could try for repeating their shortest route 2,000 times!

The boost-to-500 bonuses actually don't count towards MM status either.

EDIT: I actually just did the math and found out that, yes, the under-500 bonuses do count towards MM. Which is a little counterintuitive (though not unwelcome) given the "bonus miles don't count" language used by AS.

SEA-BLI/BLI-SEA x1000 at only 186,000 actual miles!

Let's see.. if you flip the origination around you could do 3x a day at ~$200/RT... 11 months and ~$200K, you'll be AS's newest MMer and a Flyertalk legend.

Go for it!

This is tempting. I'd never have to pay for fruit and cheese platters again. If they still offered them on the flights to the bay area I might just consider a MR like this...

ah, FT logic at its finest. sink $200K into MM status to avoid occasional $7 charges for F&C plates

Pays for itself after only 28,572 additional flights that offer the platter! Foolish not to do it.

Don't forget that I'd earn 1M miles on those flights, which I could redeem for a sweet trip in F on Emirates or something!

Better than that! Assuming starting with no status/no miles and doing it in one year = ~2,231,250 RDM. Even more if a higher fare class such as Y or S was purchased. Of course there would be a likely be a little bit of lag between the miles earned/posted/change in status, so would expect a little less.

( 1-20,000 x 1.0 = 20,000
+ 20,0001-40,000 x 1.5 MVP = 30,000
+ 40,0001-75,0000 x 2.0 MVPG = 70,000
+ 50,000 75K bonus
+ 75,0001-1,000,000 x 2.25 75K = 2,081,250
________
2,231,250)

An alternative would be to do something like SEA-PDX-BOS/BOS-PDX-SEA. The daily earning would be about the same BIS miles and you'd possibly have a chance to sit in F vs. 17" Q400 seat. Downside would be about 11-12 hours in the air every day vs. 3 hours. Of course, you'd pretty much be chained to the airport regardless.

But you might find out the night you have 999,990 miles that they changed the Emirates thresholds overnight again!

This entire thread is everything that makes FlyerTalk awesome in a bizarre, we're weird, kind of way. I'm laughing.

Would be interesting to optimize this calculation. For instance, I feel like the average advance purchase price for SEA-SMF is under $200rt. So, with that you'd get more miles (605 one way) for less $$ and easily be able to do 2 round trips each day. I wonder what is the cheapest average cpm on AS metal systemwide, when considering historical sales...assuming if you actually did this you'd purchase flights in droves when they went on sale. Of course, doing it in the fastest time possible, BLI-SEA or SEA-PDX would win for the distance and frequency advantages. Would it be possible to do 4x PDX-SEA round trips every day?

Sounds to me like he already planned for another unannounced devaluation or two:
