If you know the TA's GDS, you can get everything on Virtually There or Viewtrip (and there's one other) for most reservations (with the GDS locator, which may or may not be different than the airline's code).

Ask for the full fare basis. Not what class it booked into. I mean it is possible that it's some unpublished TA only fare that starts with W but i doubt it.

I'm in the middle of booking a trip right now and my the program we use to book travel can show seats by class of service. On my Delta options I'm seeing W as an option. I don't know if I can book it directly as the only fares for that flight I'm getting are Y and G.

Yes..Soup for you ...
So for those following, my DL W ticket woes were on a flight to IND so in the future there's a fix for that.

So there's that!

Follow up from MP
This just in.
Out of the blue this evening I got an e-mail form MP that explains why I;m getting no credit. Here is the e-mail:
"Hi FRequentlander,
Delta created this class of service a few month ago. We checked with them at the time, and they are stating they will not award miles to our members. Our web site shows a W fare but does not show the percentage of miles that Delta awards. The statement "Earning is based on original booking class" is because Delta has been upgrading our members to this class of service, then does not award miles. If you were upgraded, the earning is based on the original booking class. If you purchased this fare, Delta will not award miles.
We are abiding by the terms and conditions that Delta has set with us. We can not change the class of service and if we attempt to post with W class, it is rejected.
Sorry,
Mari P"
So while this is now crystal clear it still seems a but arbitrary on Deltas part. If you buy a W it's like you didn't fly.

The explanation is BS and conflicts with the experience of the poster in post 161 who had a purchased C+ fare. The AS reps are feeding you a line of garbage.

The basic problem seems that you flew before the systems were updated to handle W fares and the AS reps you have heard from don't understand how W fares work.

If you were upgraded, they submit the original fare class to Delta and it will go through, DL will pay for the miles and AS will add them to your account.
If you book W directly, that is the original fare class. There is no agreement to award miles for that. DL rejects the request for payment, and AS does not issue miles.
AS could eat the cost and give you miles anyhow, but they really have no reason to if the airline you actually flew on doesn't want to pay for them. You can still get credit to DL.
I wonder what DL has to say about why they decided not to pay for miles for W class?

Edit...just checked and all 4 segments credited correctly according to the underlying fare code despite purchasing comfort +. Miles were not there yesterday and never received an e-mail response back as of yet.
As an FYI here is what I sent in to the e-mail address posted in this thread (pdf of flight receipt only as I did not have boarding passes):
I have 4 segments flown that have not credited. All were Delta Comfort + Flights (W fare code). The underlying fare code was T for the outbound and V for the inbound.

75K Number: 9xxxxxxx
Please see attached PDF's of flight receipts.
Thanks

Regardless of whether you book directly into W class or upgrade to it, AS will credit based on the fare code which it books into. All Delta W class fares are actually booked into Main Cabin fare class underneath, and so credited by AS accordingly.
If anyone is interested, I have highlighted this with an example and snapshots in my recent blog post - http://travelupdate.boardingarea.com...rt-plus-class/
