AS Delivers First Copper River Salmon of the Season

From the Alaska Airlines blog:

"The smell of fish was in the air early on the morning of May 16, as Alaska Air Cargo delivered 24,100 pounds of the season’s first shipment of Copper River salmon to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The Copper River salmon’s arrival marks the beginning of the summer salmon season and is highly anticipated by seafood lovers throughout the Pacific Northwest..."

Mmmm....I've been craving me some fresh Copper River salmon for weeks (personally, the sockeye is my favorite). Prices should come down in a few days, and I'll be checking Costco this weekend, then, like a bear coming out of hibernation, gorging on salmon for the next few months. My favorite time of the year - the next 3 months is fresh food heaven around here. This month, salmon, next month: strawberries. Yummmmm. Look out stomach, it's eatin' time!!!

Real Pacific Northwest experiences - kiss that salmon for me, Captain! (and yeah, I'm lookin' at you Delta...you newcomer posers from Atlanta...)

That blog entry is from 2014

The first Copper River salmon of 2016 arrives tomorrow morning at approximately 6am. I'll be there taking photos and will report back after the event.

I'll try and shove some in my face in between cups of coffee. 5:15am check-in. Ugh.

Here's the latest tweet from Alaska with the boats coming back, hopefully loaded with salmon: https://twitter.com/AlaskaAir/status/732420331420311553.

left Cordova just after 2 a.m. May 16 onboard an Alaska Airlines 737-400 Combi
“Even our fish fly first class,”
New F cabin for the combis or the cargo section is the F cabin?

The flight was greeted at Sea-Tac by 10 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan MVP Gold members
Woo hoo! Another 12,400miles to go! Tough luck 75K's.

The salmon is here! 80,000 lbs of it. Fun event, tasty food, and lots of laughs. My photos are up at https://www.facebook.com/DaneCreekPh...type=3&theater.

Eh. It's marketing hype. Wait for sockeye salmon to hit Costco and just grab some of that. Just as tasty and way cheaper.

They are so expensive though!!

Years ago, there used to be a Yukon river salmon run but hardly ever see it nowadays.
