Agent or New Policy- BA awards?

I used 7500 avios and booked a flight to LAS with my BA avios account. When I called AS to take out my Avios number, and put in my 75k number so I could get elite seating, the agent said I couldn't put in my 75k number because it was an award issued by BA, but I could still select an elite seat as a courteousy? HUH?

I have never heard of this before, and never had a problem putting in my AS award number to select my seats. Is this a new policy or a dumb agent?

Never found an issue with AS agents, but ask to remove your number. Then add it yourself online. I'd probably try going to a website like finair to see if putting the BA record in would let you remove the number. Might have to call BA?

In the future I'd leave the number out when booking a BA award until after it's booked.

Could be a new policy, but doubt it. Agents generally can't modify tickets issued by other airlines.

Unfair to refer to the Agent as stupid. It's more than likely a training issue.

I've made dozens and dozens of these types of bookings since avios are cheaper to some destinations from Seattle, and have always put in my AS number without a problem when calling the MVP desk. What is going on here?

Just send a DM to @AlaskaAir on Twitter and have them do it. Super helpful and they do it all the time for me.

You might be able to do it yourself. Pull up the BA PNR on the Finnair site, remove your FF#. Then pull up the BA PNR on the Qantas site and add your AS PNR.

In my experience you can't delete an existing FF# on the Qantas site or that would be perfect since they're both an AS partner and in OW.

That's what I typically do, their Twitter staff has been a huge help in the past.

I'd say a majority of Alaska's res agents are nice, but I've gotten the impression there's a good chunk who could use some serious retraining.

Really?!? Calling the agent "dumb" and "stupid"? Is that really necessary?

Okay, he gets it. No need for everyone to repeat that it was a poor choice of words.
