I agree....AS has in my opinion the best entry-tier elite benefits...we're just hoping the addition addition of premium economy doesn't follow what happened with the other airlines. Right now, all AS elites can book any seat in Y at booking so let's see if that stays or not....*fingers crossed*

I stand corrected ... comment was based more on FT browsing than research or experience (full disclosure: I'm enjoying my first year of any AS status; last year I made MVP on 9 Jul and MVPG on 19 Oct, and I've been paying a lot more attention to qualification miles than redeemable miles this year)

I believe the rumor previously only 75K would get Y+ at booking.

Yikes....worse than I thought...I wonder if MVPG will still get their free beverage back in row 32 Since old seat assignments should "stick", my suggestion would be that MVPs and MVPGs book as many row 6 flights as they can in-advance of implementation.

I should clarify. MVPG gets them but i believe its the highest fares only not any fare like it is now. Of course if that happens its bye bye MCE on any AA fare.

Maybe they'll have something like GGUs for "upgrades" to Y+ if you book K or higher....lol...they funny part (in an ironic sorta way) is that there essentially will be no "elite section" in the front portion of the plane....everyone will be in the back except the paid upgraders in Y+.

Good luck with that - AS appears to have difficulties selling open exit row seats. My guess is that there will be a fair number of people who roll the dice, don't reserve a seat, hoping to assigned Y+ when the back of the plane is filled with those who reserved them in advance.

Sent a nastygram today, will be interesting to see if there is anything more than a canned response.

So far, the company hasn't provided any details so everything here is just conjecture - nastygrams are a little premature, no?

Lol...very true....is there ever a point where you *have* to choose a seat or can you simply wait til you get to the gate and let the GA assign one?

Received the following today:
Dear Diver858,

Thank you for sharing your comments. We are looking forward to you flying with us on our new service! We highly suggest, for the best elite tier benefits, you do all possible to qualify for 2017 MVP. As an MVP with us, among other benefits including priority seating and priority boarding, you will have access to a generous complimentary first class upgrade benefit, including the opportunity to upgrade to first class at the time of your reservation when you purchase upgradeable fares with us.

Diver858, again, thank you for writing. Please be assured we remain committed to providing you with the highest safety, best on-time performance (rated #1 on-time airline in North America by FlightStats.com for 6th consecutive year ), best customer service (rated #1 in airline customer satisfaction by JD Power for 9th consecutive year ), best frequent flyer benefits (rated #1 airline loyalty/reward program by JD Power for 3rd consecutive year), best baggage handling (first airline with baggage service guarantee) and best value in the airline industry. Your business is truly appreciated!

Sincerely,

XXXXX
Customer Care Specialist

Interesting to note the comment purchase upgradeable fares - may be the only way for MVPs to move up, once Y+ is installed.

I read that as referring to instant upgrade fares. (book into U at time of purchase), as opposed to being eligible for an upgrade waitlist. They're just describing the current system.

if you don't have status and are flying on AA, the seats you don't have to pay for can disappear really quickly ... I haven't actually watched this play out however

They didn't really suggest whether or not MVPs would have access to Y+
