Same level of status, or earning any status enables you to buy up to a higher level?

I earned MVP this year. I'm going to finish about 800 miles short of MVPG and was going to try and buy up to that level. Will this be allowed?
Not sure I'd call AS.

But to be sure I'd do a turn somewhere quick

^ ... flying >>> buying, esp when it's an easy and relatively inexpensive turn like SEA<-->PDX

Last time I rode my bike between SEA and PDX, they were only 200 miles apart. I'd have to do a few turns to get to 800 miles

500 mile segment minimum on all AS flights, includes Horizon shuttles.

I can't see the harm in calling. When I called to ask, the agent was extremely helpful both in answering the question about buying-up and in brainstorming ways to help me hit Gold.

As it turns out I had to fly to Helsinki this week. I'm flying Delta and KLM, SEA->AMS->HEL and back. It looks like AS will credit 75% of the miles on Delta and 50% on KLM (Q class). This should put me over the top for MVPG.
