If you think that's bad, you should see Alaska's new schedule for Vancouver to Los Angeles since this year.
YVR-LAX leaves at 6:00am. LAX-YVR arrives at midnight.
Why? Because Alaska has been losing market share in YVR to Delta Connection and the yields have collapsed.
They're putting the 737s on domestic routes mid-day.

I think it's probably more likely due to WestJet's great schedule to LAX, SNA, SAN and PSP from YVR.
