737-900 tail tipping

Two flights in a row where bags were loaded in the rear cargo hold so we had to delay passenger deplaning due to risk of tail tipping. Sounds like an odd oversight by Boeing. Not sure how many bags need to be off-loaded to give the all-clear to deplane, but the wait time has not been very long.

I wonder if the AS 737-900's have an auxiliary fuel tank in the back making them more sensitive to baggage placement. Or perhaps there was heavy cargo loaded towards the back of the airplane.

Didn't airlines use tailstands at one time? (Maybe they still do.)

I think they did with the DC-8...that was a LONG plane....still remember flying it PDX-ORD on UA back in the 80s....

I always thought the Braniff DC-8-60 series aircraft painted by Alexander Calder were really cool.

They are testing a couple of different tail stands, so hopefully holding deplaning will soon be a thing of the past.

There aren't any auxiliary tanks in any of AS planes.

Seems a solution has been implemented. Haven't been held up for a while that I can recall.

UA is having some issues with this now too

Tail stands are very common. Just google it, there are a lot of pictures of tipped planes. Even some 747's

I've seen tailstands in place on both AS 739s and DL 739s parked at the gate. Seems commonplace.

I've only ever noticed AS jets using these braces. Maybe it has something to do with the boarding procedure where they load up the back first?

AS is also using them with the 800s. Not exactly sure why, other than they have a tail stand available at every gate.

probably SOP to prevent not bracing a plane that needed it.

Clearly a way to get a jump start on the 20 minute guarantee .

20 minutes is 20 minutes. The clock still starts at the same time, regardless of whether you've left the plane or not.
